It simmered through much of the first period before finally boiling over into a cacophony of violence started off by Berkly Catton (!!!!), who decided his captain getting brained without a call was too much, and promptly took on a player who has at least three inches of height on him, and would’ve probably gone after Lilleberg’s hide had he been available (Lilleberg was wearing a cage due to a facial fracture), and set off a series of retaliations, roughings, and indeed some Corey Perry bulls#!t of the kind he’s well known for that was repaid in kind. Given that Tampa was the originator of a lot of their recent woes, I can think of no better way to hopefully cleanse that demon than to actively battle them and get a dramatic win.

The Kraken still didn’t take a helluva lot of shots, but one thing they identified as a major weakness for the Lightning was, for some reason, the net-front. The Lightning defense was having THEE worst time dealing with the Kraken’s pressure out in front of Vasilevskiy, and all three of their regulation goals reflected it: Back-hander out front that nobody can get to, Everyone’s eye off the puck for Kaapo Kakko sailing in, and Bobby McMann cramming the puck past Vasilevskiy while he’s dealing with a net-front scramble.

Then the Kraken tried playing park the bus with a team that has Jake Guentzel and Nikita Kucherov on it, as well as try to deal with their power play while having a miserable penalty kill. Understandably this was not a winning strategy, but hey! Nobody in the Pacific Division beyond the Kraken benefitted from going to OT!

In all seriousness, the Kraken got insanely lucky that Tampa’s defense was not up to the task tonight. The Bolts, as you’ll see later in this article, ran the entire game possession-wise and while they have the odd quirk of sometimes forgetting to score enough goals to win a game, teams like Buffalo and Edmonton don’t. They should be thinking of this effort as a starting point.

Speaking of OT, man the Kraken got the kind of looks you’d wish they could see far more often. They were able to get oodles of open ice, and on the final shift it felt like Berkly Catton and Brandon Montour had Tampa deep down in hell. Just fantastic stuff.

Berkly Catton was just a goal away from a Gordie Howe Hat Trick…though admittedly it’s a bit hard to get one of those when your assist comes on the game-winner. You’ll get another shot at it soon, Berk!

Ho hum, another two points for Bobby McMann; the most goal-scoringest man to wear Deep Blue.

Philipp Grubauer’s bounce-back season has come with one of the most impressive games of the season. That .909 SV% belies the fact he was under siege for a good portion of this game, and getting that out of 33 shots from the Tampa Bay Lightning is no small feat. Good stuff, Grubert!

Granted, while this win was important for getting the monkey off of their backs, they still need to gain ground. Buffalo looms for Seattle, while Los Angeles just won a game against Vancouver and get the Utah Mammoth next. The Preds meanwhile play Montreal and Tampa, and then some of the most important non-Kraken games to the Kraken happen; Los Angeles plays Nashville twice in a week. Seattle plays a lot of games in the interrim against teams it is entirely possible to rip two points off of if they can lock their game down. But they gotta use the momentum of this one to get them there.

Let’s give a hand to…

Brandon Montour! Two goals, first to start us off, and the game winner!

Kaapo Kakko with a goal and an assist! This dude really just needs to play for Finland every winter and he apparently comes back a new man.

IIHF MOVE THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS TO AFTER THE WORLD JUNIORS THE KRAKEN NEED THIS POWER

Personally I don’t know if I would be giving Chandler Stephenson over 24 minutes of ice time, but he’s definitely picked his game up quite a bit since the Olympics, so y’know what? I’ll take it. He had an assist on Kakko’s goal!

Just…don’t make it a trend, please.

Bobby McMann is just another example of the Kraken getting found money from teams on the way down. This dude rules and I’m so glad he’s in Seattle.

Another round of applause for Philipp Grubauer, he was pretty damn good tonight under fire.

The Chartz, via NaturalStatTrick.com

Seriously though…you gotta be ready for Buffalo.

The Kraken take on the Sabres on Sunday, where they show up nice and early for a matinee game at 2:30pm.

Keep Calm, and Post Zoidberg When We Win.

Mandatory Credit: Pablo Robles-Imagn Images It’s so good to beat your archrivals…the Lightning. … YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH LET’S GO KRAKEN…

[5130
5,4188,4,2686,234,5318
0":"post-525450","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-seattle-kraken","8":"tag-hockey","9":"tag-kraken","10":"tag-nhl","11":"tag-seattle","12":"tag-seattle-kraken","13":"tag-seattlekraken
["GET
