Former Edmonton Oilers<\/a>\u00a0and Boston Bruins<\/a>\u00a0general manager Peter Chiarelli is leaving the St. Louis Blues<\/a> front office to pursue other opportunities, TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports.<\/p>\n

Dreger adds that Chiarelli, who is vice president of hockey operations in St. Louis,\u00a0is a\u00a0candidate for the Nashville Predators<\/a>\u2019 general manager job, which opened earlier this season when Barry Trotz announced he would be stepping down.<\/p>\n

Dreger reports that Springfield Thunderbirds general manager and pro scout Kevin Maxwell<\/a> is also leaving the Blues and is expected to return to the New York Rangers<\/a> in a management role.<\/p>\n

My sense of the Preds’ executive search is that they are not feeling rushed by any deadline, they’ve cast a wide net (spoken to 15 or so people) and it’ll take as long as it needs to take until they make the hire(s) they feel are right. Chiarelli has been with the Blues since 2021. He served as general manager of the Oilers from 2015-19 and was general manager of the\u00a0Bruins\u00a0from 2006-2015, winning the Stanley Cup with the team in 2011.<\/p>\n

Maxwell has been with the Blues since 2022 after 14 seasons with the Rangers, including 10 as their director of pro scouting.<\/p>\n

The Blues are entering a time of change in the front office as Alexander Steen<\/a> prepares to take over as general manager from Doug Armstrong, a succession that was first announced in 2024.<\/p>\n

St. Louis is on track to miss the postseason this year, sitting six points back of the Nashville Predators<\/a> for the final wild-card spot with four teams sandwiched between the two.<\/p>\n
