For the second time in three weeks<\/a> a Wild player is the NHL’s\u00a0First Star of the Week, with winger Matt Boldy taking home the accolade after registering six points in Minnesota’s last two wins.<\/p>\n

Boldy assisted on Minnesota’s opening goal of the game against Montreal on Monday, as well as the game-winning goal in overtime.<\/p>\n

He followed that up with an incredible performance in Nashville,<\/a> scoring a first period hat-trick and again assisting on the game-winning goal in overtime. By scoring all three goals in the first 12 minutes and 58 seconds on Wednesday, Boldy recorded the earliest hat-trick in franchise history.<\/p>\n

It brings him up to 62 points on the season, with 32 goals and 30 assists. That is second on the Wild, behind only Kirill Kaprizov’s 70 points, 32 goals and 38 assists. Boldy is now just 11 points behind his career high of 73 points, which he set just last season. The Wild still have 26 games left in the season.<\/p>\n

It is the first time in Boldy’s career he has earned a Star of the Week honor, and the second time a Wild player has been named First Star in the past three weeks, after Kaprizov earned the honor after scoring nine points in the week starting Jan. 25.<\/p>\n

Earlier this season, goalie Jesper Wallstedt was named the Rookie of the Month for November, and Joel Eriksson Ek was the Third Star for the week of Dec. 14.<\/p>\n

The NHL is now in a three-week Winter Olympics break. Minnesota entered the break on a five game winning streak and have closed the gap behind the Colorado Avalanche to just five points. However, the Avs have three games in hand on Minnesota.<\/p>\n

The two teams return from the Olympic break with a game in Denver on Feb. 26, puck drop is set for 8:00 p.m. CT.<\/p>\n
