The wait is finally over. The Vancouver Canucks<\/a> have a new rival. After riding with the \u201cUtah Hockey Club\u201d title for their inaugural 2024-2025 season, the organization and the fans have decided to roll with:<\/p>\n

The Utah Mammoth.<\/p>\n

Mammoth owners Ryan and Ashley Smith released a statement regarding the choice:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe couldn\u2019t be more excited to launch the official name and marks for Utah\u2019s NHL hockey team. When it came to naming the team, we did something unprecedented \u2013 going through four rounds of community voting, including getting feedback not only on potential names but also on potential logos.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe love the passion of the people of Utah and the way they showed up for the team during its inaugural season, and the energy they brought to voting on its permanent identity.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom day one, we committed that this team would be built with and for the people of Utah, and we are excited to celebrate today\u2019s launch with the entire state. The community chose the Utah Mammoth, and it stands as a symbol of who we are, where we came from, and the unstoppable force we\u2019re building together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Utah took over the former Arizona Coyotes, in what was a relocation move of the old franchise. The club elected to go with the Hockey Club for the first season, holding a fan vote in order to pick the next name. The three original name options for the team name were: Utah Hockey Club, Utah Mammoth and Utah Yeti.<\/p>\n

While the Utah Yeti became the early runaway favourite, league issues with name branding with the Yeti cooler company nixed the name. They quickly added \u201cUtah Wasatch\u201d to the list of options. However, that raised some eyebrows around the league and was quickly switched to the \u201cUtah Bandits.\u201d<\/p>\n

There were three potential logos leaked for the fans to vote on. Here were those options:<\/p>\n

Can confirm these are the official logos that have been presented to @utahhockeyclub<\/a> fans as part of their team name vote.<\/p>\n

Now that you\u2019ve seen them, which one would you vote for?<\/p>\n

The Hockey Club option appears to represent what the potential Yeti logo would have looked like.<\/p>\n

This version of the Mammoth logo is a little bit different from the one suggested. It appears to be a combination of the Mammoth and Hockey Club\/Yeti. Nonetheless, it is still a very intricate one.<\/p>\n

In the post, the Mammoth details each part of their new logo. Here are all the detailed descriptions of what each part of their new logo means:<\/p>\n

\u201cUtah Mammoth was born in Wasatch. Our Mammoth was carved from our mountains and features snow-capped peaks across its crown.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Utah state outline is hidden in our mountains, and our home remains core to our identity. Observe, too, an M in an icy form \u2013 a nod to our iconic beast.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMammoth tusks have been found in a variety of shapes and forms, but most often appear to resemble the letter U. We took that as a sign. Tusks Up is our rally cry.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mammoth also released their jerseys, which are fairly similar to their original. Utah plans to keep their colour scheme of black, white and light blue, but are changing their home jerseys to the Mammoth logo on the crest of the jersey:<\/p>\n

While their road jerseys will stick with \u201cUtah\u201d running down the jersey from the top right corner to the bottom left:<\/p>\n

During Utah\u2019s first season, the Hockey Club finished with a 38-31-13 record for 89 points, finishing sixth in the Central Division and fifth in the Wild Card standings. They were led by first-year Captain Clayton Keller, who scored 30 goals and 60 assists for 90 points, 25 points clear of second-place Logan Cooley. And to top it all off, Utah won the second draw of the NHL Draft Lottery<\/a> and moved up 10 spots to fourth overall, where they will be selecting the first-ever Utah Mammoth draft pick come June 27.<\/p>\n
