It’s the second and final meeting of the 2025-26 season between the two teams.

In the first game on Nov. 11 at the United Center, Simon Nemec led the Devils to a come-from-behind 4-3 overtime win, scoring the game-tying goal late in the third period and the overtime winner to record his first NHL hat trick. Dawson Mercer tallied the other goal for New Jersey. Connor Bedard (PP), Landon Slaggert, and Sam Lafferty scored the goals for the Blackhawks.

Last time out, the Blackhawks were blown out for the second night in a row, falling 6-1 to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Friday. Nick Lardis recorded the lone goal for Chicago, which was his third in the last four games. The Rangers rattled off six unanswered goals after Lardis opened the scoring in the first period. Arvid Soderblom stopped 33 of 39 shots in defeat.

The Devils are playing the back end of a back-to-back and are coming off a 5-2 road loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Timo Meier and Evgenii Dadonov scored the two goals in the game for New Jersey. It was only their second loss over a seven-game stretch dating back to Mar. 14.

With 76 points through 72 games this season, the Devils sit 11 points back of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second and final Wild Card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. It would require a miraculous finish to the regular season for the Devils to sneak into the postseason, especially with how many teams are in contention.

Here’s everything else to note before the puck drops at 6:00 p.m. CT in New Jersey.

Blackhawks Projected Lineup

Forward Lines

Ryan Greene — Connor Bedard — Frank Nazar

Tyler Bertuzzi — Anton Frondell — Nick Lardis

Andre Burakovsky — Ryan Donato — Ilya Mikheyev

Teuvo Teravainen — Sacha Boisvert — Landon Slaggert

Defensive Pairings

Alex Vlasic-Louis Crevier

Wyatt Kaiser-Sam Rinzel

Kevin Korchinski-Ethan Del Mastro

Scratched

F — Sam Lafferty, F — Dominic Toninato

Injured

D — Matt Grzelcyk (undisclosed), D — Artyom Levshunov (hand), F — Andrew Mangiapane (undisclosed), F — Oliver Moore (lower body)

***

Artyom Levshunov will miss Sunday’s game with a wrist injury, and his timeline to return is to be determined.
