The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned rookie forwards Ville Koivunen and Rutger McGroarty to Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL) late Monday night.<\/p>\n
The team did not announce either transaction but they were reflected on the NHL\u2019s media website as well as the AHL\u2019s website.<\/p>\n
Both players were healthy scratches during an 8-3 road win against the New York Islanders on Monday.<\/p>\n
Koivunen has appeared in 36 NHL contests this season and has scored seven points (two goals, five assists) while averaging 12:29 of ice time.<\/p>\n
With Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton, Koivunen has played in 29 games and generated 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists).<\/p>\n
A left-handed shot, Koivunen is in the final year of a three-year entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $805,833.<\/p>\n
McGroarty has skated in 21 NHL games, posting five points (two goals, three assists) while clocking an average of 11:46 ice time per contest.<\/p>\n
At the AHL level, McGroarty has 26 points (seven goals, 19 assists).<\/p>\n
The left-handed McGroarty is in the second year of a three-year entry-level contract with a salary cap hit of $950,000.<\/p>\n
In another transaction within the organization, defenseman Emil Pieniniemi was assigned from Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton to Wheeling of the ECHL.<\/p>\n
A left-handed shot, Pieniniemi has appeared in nine AHL games and scored three points (one goal, two assists).<\/p>\n
