Thanks to a relatively soft remaining schedule and one last head-to-head matchup with the Dallas Stars, hopes of a playoff run are still alive.

The question now is whether they can find the consistency and urgency to take advantage of it. The Wild’s upcoming slate offers opportunity. Several of their remaining games are against teams below the playoff line, opponents they should beat on paper.

Squads like the Anaheim Ducks, the Chicago Blackhawks, and the San Jose Sharks have spent much of the season in rebuilding mode. Those contests present must-win scenarios for the Wild to keep pace with playoff contenders like Dallas, the Anaheim Ducks, and the Utah Mammoth.

Playoff teams don’t stand in Minnesota’s path. They’ll face winnable matchups that will test their focus and professionalism every night.

However, this season has shown that “should win” games don’t always equal two points. The Wild have suffered frustrating losses to bottom-tier teams throughout the year, often due to slow starts and lapses in defensive structure. If they want to make the most of their scheduling advantage, they’ll need to clean up those inconsistencies, and fast.

Minnesota’s formula is simple: sharpen the details, manage the puck, and play with the kind of desperation you’d expect from a playoff-hungry group in late March. Their upcoming clash with the Dallas Stars could be the turning point. Dallas sits one spot ahead of them in the Central Division, and the Wild’s final meeting with them could serve as both a measuring stick and a momentum builder.

It’s the perfect chance for Minnesota to prove that they belong in the playoff conversation. Instead of presenting themselves as a fringe team clinging to hope, they can be a legitimate threat capable of beating top-tier opponents. A statement win against the Stars would send a timely message to the rest of the league and a fanbase that’s been waiting for this group to hit its stride.

However, certain players need to elevate their game to reach that point. Kirill Kaprizov has recently been finding his scoring touch again, but the Wild can’t rely on him alone. Mats Zuccarello and Joel Eriksson Ek will be crucial in generating consistent offense. Meanwhile, the blueline – led by Quinn Hughes, Brock Faber, and Jonas Brodin – must tighten up in their own zone.

Goaltending will also play a massive role down the stretch. Whether it’s Filip Gustavsson or Jesper Wallstedt in net, the Wild will need strong, steady performances each night to navigate this critical stretch successfully.

There’s also an intangible element that we can’t overlook: confidence. Teams that believe in their structure and ability to close out games often find ways to win even when they’re not at their best. The Wild need to rediscover that self-assurance, which has occasionally wavered this season. Too often, they’ve been chasing games instead of dictating the pace early in games. Starting strong, staying disciplined, and limiting costly penalties will be essential habits if they hope to sustain a winning streak.

When it comes down to it, the Wild’s playoff push will be decided by how they play – not by luck, tiebreakers, or if other teams win or lose. The schedule is favorable, the opportunities are clear, and the margin for error is small; now it’s about execution.

Suppose Minnesota can combine urgency with smart, structured play. Then, they have every reason to believe a postseason run is within reach. The pieces are there; it’s just a matter of putting them together when it matters most. The stage is set, and the Wild still control their own destiny, but only if they start playing like a team determined to prove it.

Think you could write a story like this?
