Despite a few extra days of rest after a strong showing against the Penguins last week, Linus Ullmark<\/a> looked out of rhythm on Tuesday night. <\/p>\n

The Ottawa Senators<\/a> goaltender couldn’t catch a break in the first period against the Florida Panthers and was replaced between the pipes by James Reimer after allowing five goals in the first 15 minutes.<\/p>\n

Right from the starting gun it looked to be a rough night for Ullmark, as he allowed a goal to Florida centre Noah Gregor eight seconds in \u2014 the fastest goal in Panthers history. <\/p>\n

The Panthers didn’t slow down there, as Mackie Samoskevich potted a power-play marker less than a minute later. Then, midway through the period, Carter Verhaeghe scored another Panthers goal on the man advantage.<\/p>\n

Finally, at the 14-minute mark, quick scores from A.J. Greer and for Verhaeghe in 34 seconds were the nails in the coffin for the Swedish netminder, as Reimer took his place between the pipes for the remainder of the opening frame. <\/p>\n

In all, Ullmark ended his night allowing five goals on 16 shots and the Senators went into the first intermission down 5-0 to the bottom-feeding Panthers side. <\/p>\n

The move to start Ullmark against Florida comes after the 32-year-old rode the bench on Saturday in a crucial game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Senators ultimately lost the showdown 4-2 and lost ground in the race for a wild-card spot in the East. <\/p>\n

“I want to play Linus every night. He needed a rest, and he wasn’t available to start tonight,” Senators head coach Travis Green said afterward, a quote that raised some eyebrows.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the game prior, Ullmark shone in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, stopping 37 of the 40 shots he faced.<\/p>\n

Heading into Tuesday’s action, the Senators owned a 38-25-10 record and sat fifth in the Atlantic.
