{"id":534737,"date":"2026-04-01T13:31:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T13:31:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/534737\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T13:31:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T13:31:12","slug":"oilers-ingram-makes-his-presence-felt-with-birthday-shutout-against-kraken-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/534737\/","title":{"rendered":"Oilers&#8217; Ingram makes his presence felt with birthday shutout against Kraken"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">EDMONTON \u2014 It may have been his birthday, but goaltender <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/connor-ingram\/8478971\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/connor-ingram\/8478971\" target=\"_blank\">Connor Ingram<\/a> was the one handing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/edmonton-oilers\/22\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/edmonton-oilers\/22\" target=\"_blank\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> a present on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Celebrating his 29th birthday, Ingram made 27 saves for his second shutout of the season and ninth of his career as the Oilers extended their winning streak to four games, getting past the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/seattle-kraken\/55\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/seattle-kraken\/55\" target=\"_blank\">Seattle Kraken<\/a> 3-0.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHe played really well,\u201d said Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch. \u201cWe talk about our defensive zone coverage and how we\u2019re playing really well, eliminating turnovers and all that, but if he doesn\u2019t make those saves we\u2019re probably talking about our turnovers and our defensive lapses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe did have turnovers, we did have mistakes in our coverage, but when your goaltender makes all the saves and plays as well as he did tonight we kind of ignore that stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Ingram became the first goalie in Oilers history to post a shutout on his birthday and the sixth in franchise history to record multiple shutouts in his first season with the club. The Saskatchewan native was picked up from Utah for future considerations on Oct. 1 as some insurance likely to remain on the farm, but has ended up becoming Edmonton\u2019s starter, now sporting a 14-8-2 record.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThe more you play the easier it is going to get,\u201d Ingram said. \u201cI thought everybody in front of me did a great job today. I didn\u2019t really have to do much back there, maybe that bad bounce on the PK that kicks out to the slot. Other than that, I thought everybody in front of me made my job really easy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Ingram has battled obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression, earning the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy in 2024 in recognition of his mental health struggles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/max-jones\/8479368\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/max-jones\/8479368\" target=\"_blank\">Max Jones<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/kasperi-kapanen\/8477953\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/kasperi-kapanen\/8477953\" target=\"_blank\">Kasperi Kapanen<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/connor-mcdavid\/8478402\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/connor-mcdavid\/8478402\" target=\"_blank\">Connor McDavid<\/a> scored for the Oilers (38-28-9) who have won six of their last eight and became the second last team in the NHL to put together a four-game winning streak, with only Philadelphia unable to have a stretch that long this season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cOur game isn\u2019t sexy right now. It\u2019s not fancy,\u201d Knoblauch said. \u201cIt\u2019s just a lot of little things, and that\u2019s usually the difference between winning and losing. We have six D and 12 forwards each night who are doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Edmonton moved two points back of Pacific Division-leading Anaheim and three points up on third place Vegas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI feel like ever since we had the conversation about everyone stepping up a bit, it seems like everyone\u2019s kind of just doing a little bit extra out there,\u201d Jones said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Oilers have been playing stronger defence of late, especially since learning star forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/leon-draisaitl\/8477934\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/leon-draisaitl\/8477934\" target=\"_blank\">Leon Draisaitl<\/a> was lost for the rest of the regular season with a lower-body injury,<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI think we\u2019re just trying to simplify the game a little right now, trying not to do too much,\u201d Kapanen said. \u201cObviously we still have amazing players that can play with the puck and make plays, but I think the general idea is to simplify. We\u2019re obviously missing Leo out there, so it seems to be working right now and so we need to keep doing that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThe main thing is that we\u2019re playing the right way right now and that counts, so we just have to keep building.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">McDavid extended his goal streak to five games. He leads the NHL in goals since Dec. 1 with 32. The Oilers captain in now one point back of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/dale-hawerchuk\/8447685\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/dale-hawerchuk\/8447685\" target=\"_blank\">Dale Hawerchuk<\/a> for the third-most points by a player before age 30. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/wayne-gretzky\/8447400\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/wayne-gretzky\/8447400\" target=\"_blank\">Wayne Gretzky<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/mario-lemieux\/8448782\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/mario-lemieux\/8448782\" target=\"_blank\">Mario Lemieux<\/a> are first and second on that list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Kraken (32-30-11) have lost six of their last seven and remain two points out of a wild-card playoff berth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cWe know where we are,\u201d said Kraken forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/&#009;matty-beniers-579942\/8482665\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/&#009;matty-beniers-579942\/8482665\" target=\"_blank\">Matty Beniers<\/a>. \u201cObviously tonight was very important and we didn\u2019t get it done, but there is really no reason to dwell on it now, it\u2019s learn from it and then win the next one.
