Bozeman, Mont. \u2014 Bozeman police officers and firefighters\u00a0are\u00a0set to take the ice at Haynes Pavilion on Friday, April 3, for the third annual Frozen Frontline hockey game.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
First responders from the Bozeman Police Department and\u00a0the Bozeman\u00a0Fire Department will\u00a0trade\u00a0emergency gear for skates and hockey sticks\u00a0for a hockey game Friday evening at 7pm,\u00a0as part of\u00a0a\u00a0community fundraiser.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The event was started in Montana by Evergreen nonprofit co-founder John Stewart to bring the community together in support of first responders.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
“An annual police \/ fire hockey game is pretty prevalent in those parts of the country, so, and that\u2019s where he was from in the\u00a0Midwest,\u00a0and he said it\u2019s a huge turnout. People love to go out and do it, so\u00a0let\u2019s\u00a0try it in Montana,” said Abram Antonucci, president of the Bozeman Police Foundation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Money raised from the game will go\u00a0to the Bozeman Amateur Hockey Association scholarship fund,\u00a0the Bozeman Police Foundation and the Bozeman Fire Fighters Benevolent Fund.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Firefighters\u00a0and\u00a0Paramedic with the Bozeman Fire Department Paul Arnold\u00a0explained that the two departments work closely\u00a0together\u00a0in their daily\u00a0jobs and\u00a0said that same teamwork carries onto the ice each year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
“We have to work well with\u00a0each other\u00a0and you know, be a team, and\u00a0the ice\u00a0hockey is kind of the same thing, right?\u00a0We\u2019re\u00a0getting to see people that we work with, but in a more like, fun, but still competitive nature and still includes teamwork, and,\u00a0yeah\u00a0its\u00a0pretty awesome,” said\u00a0Arnold.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bozeman Police Department patrol lieutenant Quinn Ellingson\u00a0says that while the action on the ice is competitive,\u00a0it’s\u00a0the cause in which first responders are playing for that means the most.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAnytime we can fundraise to help the youth have more access to hockey in Bozeman I think that\u2019s important so, in the end the score will be what the score is, but the biggest thing is just the underlying benefit to the community,” said Quinn Ellingson, patrol lieutenant with the Bozeman Police Department.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
The event\u00a0is\u00a0scheduled to begin\u00a0at Haynes Pavillion\u00a0with a community barbecue at 6 p.m. before the puck\u00a0drops at 7p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n
