{"id":536107,"date":"2026-04-02T06:30:35","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T06:30:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/536107\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T06:30:35","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T06:30:35","slug":"flames-sign-cornell-forward-jonathan-castagna-to-entry-level-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/536107\/","title":{"rendered":"Flames sign Cornell forward Jonathan Castagna to entry-level deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A newly acquired prospect is ready to enter pro hockey with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/teams\/calgary-flames\/\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-team=\"calgary-flames\" data-league=\"nhl\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Calgary Flames<\/a> organization.<\/p>\n<p>Cornell forward Jonathan Castagna has signed a three-year, entry-level deal with the club, the Flames <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NHLFlames\/status\/2038738260344840319\" rel=\"nofollow\">announced<\/a> Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The deal, with an average annual value of $1.075 million, begins in the 2026-27 season. He&#8217;ll report to the AHL&#8217;s Calgary Wranglers on a PTO for the remainder of this season, but Castagna is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.<\/p>\n<p>The Flames acquired Castagna on March 4 from the Utah Mammoth in the MacKenzie Weegar deal. He was picked in the third round (70th overall) by the then-Arizona Coyotes in the 2023 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n<p>The Toronto native led Cornell in scoring with 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points in 34 games in his third season with the Big Red.<\/p>\n<p>The six-foot-two Castagna, 20, earned a spot on the All-ECAC first team and was named the ECAC\u2019s best defensive forward.<\/p>\n<p>Cornell was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA tournament by Denver.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A newly acquired prospect is ready to enter pro hockey with the Calgary Flames organization.
