On March 26, Winkler\u2019s Ang Braun, the executive director of\u00a0Genesis House<\/a>, was singled out in the crowd\u00a0during the Winnipeg Jets\u2019 home game against the Colorado Avalanche.\u00a0<\/p>\n

She was selected as a Jets Community Hero for her work with her organization, for which her nominator, Sandi Enns, said\u00a0she works \u201ctirelessly.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201c[She always wants]\u00a0the best for those clients that she serves,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018She\u2019s\u00a0just a great person\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n

As a part of being named a Jets Community Hero, Braun (and Enns as her nominator) received complimentary tickets to the game, a $100 food and beverage voucher, and on-camera recognition during a timeout.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The featured segment also included pictures of Braun\u2019s work\u00a0in the community\u00a0on Canada Life\u00a0Centre\u2019s jumbotron, including her participation in\u00a0Orange Shirt Day initiatives.\u00a0<\/p>\n

For Enns, who went to the game with Braun, it was a special experience \u2014 especially since the latter had never been to an NHL game before.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

As for Braun\u2019s response to being named a Jets Community Hero,\u00a0she said that when she first received the email\u00a0notifying her, she\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0quite believe it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI got the e-mail back in January already, and initially I thought, ‘Whatever.’ I\u00a0actually didn’t\u00a0even really believe it, and then I had a friend reach out and say, \u2018Hey, I nominated you for this award,\u2019\u201d she said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI went back to the e-mail, and the woman who was reaching out from the Jets organization’s name was Miranda, and so she was wonderful to work with …. In the end, it was … wonderful.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rolling out the red carpet\u00a0<\/p>\n

Braun said that she was \u201chonoured\u201d to have been selected for the accolade, and that from the Jets team to the fans who surrounded her at the game, she was \u201ctreated well.\u201d<\/p>\n

She\u00a0continued\u00a0that she\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0sure she would enjoy an NHL game, but it turned out to be a fun, memorable experience.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now that she has been named a Jets Community Hero, she hopes to nominate someone else for the\u00a0honour\u00a0in the future.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

As for\u00a0Enns, Braun\u2019s\u00a0nominator\u00a0and longtime friend, she would like to see the accolade help Braun continue to impact the community as she has for decades.\u00a0

\n\u201cI hope people keep supporting her hard work, and that she can achieve the dreams that she wants for these women and families, so that they can be successful in their new lives. Hopefully\u00a0getting the word out\u00a0there some more helps\u00a0get that done,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
