The Red Wings are looking to turn the page following a brutal March. Detroit is still in the hunt, but playing mistake-free hockey is non-negotiable. The same goes for the Flyers, who enjoyed a solid March. If the Flyers take that momentum into April with a big win, they could be a dark horse for the playoffs.

NHL Predictions With the Red Wings and Flyers

Season Series: Flyers 1 – 0 Red Wings

Puck Drop: 7:00 p.m. EDT

How to Watch: FDSNDET, NBCSP

March has been a curse for the Red Wings going back to the 2023-24 season. The good news? April has been kinder, and they went 5-2-2 in the season’s final month in 2025. That should be a boost for the fans’ and players’ morale.

As for the Flyers, regardless of what happens, 2025-26 has been a year to build on. They’re young and flawed but have shown they can compete with just about anyone. That trend shouldn’t stop tonight.

Eastern Conference Wild Card Standings

Team – GP – Pts – RW

BOS – 75 – 94 – 31
CBJ – 75 – 88 – 27
OTT – 74 – 86 – 32
DET – 74 – 86 – 28
PHI – 74 – 86 – 23
WAS – 75 – 85 – 32

From the current standings, the Bruins look like they’ve snagged the top Wild Card spot. Anything besides a historic meltdown has them firmly entrenched in the playoffs. Things are way too close for comfort regarding that second spot. If Red Wings and Flyers fans can breathe a sigh of relief, it’s that they at least have a game in hand over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Biggest Storyline for the Detroit Red Wings

Who’s going to step up and make sure this team doesn’t keep going down 3-0 before they finally start playing solid hockey? Players like Dylan Larkin should shine here. Larkin is the captain of this team and one of the most respected voices in the locker room. If he wants to prove his leadership capability, now would be the time.

This also shouldn’t fall squarely on Larkin. The Wings have plenty of veterans who need to rise up and make their voices heard. Patrick Kane, James van Riemsdyk, David Perron, Justin Faulk, and Ben Chiarot also need to demand better play.

Burning Question Facing the Philadelphia Flyers

Will the Flyers keep up their post-Olympic heroics? Philadelphia is 12-5-1 since the Olympics, but they have been grinding out wins. The Flyers outscored opponents 53-45 in that span, once again relying on defense. Only three of those 12 wins have come by three or more goals. And six of those wins have come in either overtime or in a shootout.

The good news? Philadelphia enjoyed a surge offensively over the back half of the month. They scored four or more goals in wins over the Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks, and the Red Wings. If the Flyers’ offensive firepower can stay close to what they have done defensively and at goaltending all season, they have a good chance of starting April with momentum.

NHL Predictions

The Red Wings have proven they could get things together in April. Meanwhile, the Flyers are steamrolling into the month with six wins in their last eight contests. It will come down to which team is feeling more urgency, but also who has more momentum.

Flyers 5 – Red Wings 4

Prop Bets

Owen Tippet scored a hat trick when the Flyers faced the Wings on March 28th. Larkin has been Mr. Consistency for the Wings, recently putting up at least 30 goals in a season for the fifth consecutive year and the sixth time in his career.

Main photo by: Rick Osentoski-Imagn Images

Please play responsibly, check for your local rules and age restrictions; some jurisdictions require ages 21+.
