It’s been 10 years since Mikhail Grabovski last played in the NHL, but the former NY Islanders forward has re-appeared in the news after being arrested on March 14, following a youth hockey game in Newmarket, Ontario.<\/p>\n
Grabovski, who coaches the U15 Markham Wrexers of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association, had an altercation with the opposing coach following an 11-0 defeat during a playoff game, according to Spiro Papuckoski of the Toronto Sun.<\/p>\n
A heated game in which there were 61 penalty minutes, the referees skated over to the locker room area at the game’s conclusion, where a commotion had occurred. <\/p>\n
According to Papuckoski, a source stated that after the two coaches were separated, a death threat was made by one individual. <\/p>\n
“The Ontario Minor Hockey Association is aware of this situation and does not condone this type of behavior, nor does it reflect the values of the OMHA or the sport,” the league’s statement reads.<\/p>\n
Grabovski is next scheduled to appear in court on June 12.<\/p>\n
Grabovski, drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 5th round of the 2004 NHL Draft, played seven seasons with the Habs, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Washington Capitals before signing with the Islanders in the summer of 2014, alongside his close friend Nikolay Kulemin. He’d play two seasons on Long Island, scoring 18 goals and adding 26 assists through 109 games.<\/p>\n
