We have an update on the defenseman who suffered a serious injury in a recent Montreal Canadiens game, as Columbus loses a key piece on the blue line.<\/p>\n

The Columbus Blue Jackets have just suffered a major loss within their defensive corps.<\/p>\n

This surgical procedure unfortunately brings a definitive end to his NHL regular season.<\/p>\n

General manager Don Waddell confirmed the unfortunate news to fans.<\/p>\n

Damon Severson\u2019s strong season cut short as Blue Jackets lose key minutes on defense<\/p>\n

Before this unfortunate incident in Montreal, the defenseman was having an excellent season.<\/p>\n

He currently ranks second among his team\u2019s defensemen in scoring this year, behind star player Zachary Werenski.<\/p>\n

His +18 rating highlights just how important he has been on the ice for the Jackets.<\/p>\n

His average ice time of over 21 minutes per game will leave a massive void to fill on Columbus\u2019 blue line.<\/p>\n

A full rehabilitation process now lies ahead for Severson.<\/p>\n

He was injured following contact with Zachary Bolduc:<\/p>\n

“Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson underwent successful shoulder surgery on Thursday and will miss the rest of the season.”<\/p>\n

Damon Severson, 31, has recorded 32 points in 71 games this season. He is a 6-foot-2 defenseman and a second-round pick of the New Jersey Devils in 2012.<\/p>\n
