Following Friday\u2019s practice in New York, Detroit<\/a> Red Wings coach Todd McLellan<\/a> told reporters that the status of defenseman Justin Faulk<\/a> for Saturday afternoon\u2019s game against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden remains up in the air.<\/p>\n

Faulk will be reassessed in the morning, and a decision on his ability to play in the game will be made at that time. <\/p>\n

\u201cJustin didn\u2019t skate today,\u201d McLellan said on the team\u2019s website following Friday\u2019s practice. \u201cHe\u2019s getting treatments. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re hoping he\u2019s going to be ready for tomorrow, but I can\u2019t predict one way or the other. So we\u2019ll see how he is in the morning.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justin Faulk, who exited Thursday\u2019s victory in Philadelphia late in the second period because of a lower-body injury, was receiving treatment so he didn\u2019t practice this afternoon. @DetroitRedWings<\/a> head coach Todd McLellan is \u201choping he’s going to be ready for tomorrow, but I\u2026<\/p>\n

Faulk left Thursday\u2019s 4-2 win at Philadelphia over the Flyers in the second period and did not return to action. The team announced that the recently acquired defenseman is suffering from a lower-body injury. <\/p>\n

Even though the Red Wings have an extra defenseman on the roster in veteran Travis Hamonic, McLellan suggested that the team would be recalling a defenseman from the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins<\/a> on an emergency basis. It\u2019s expected that defenseman will be Axel Sandin-Pellikka.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would think, but again, I don\u2019t know yet,\u201d McLellan said.<\/p>\n

Before his assignment last month to the Griffins, Sandin-Pellikka played 63 games for the Red Wings. The rookie rearguard amassed 6-13-19 totals, along with a minus-21 rating. <\/p>\n

\u201cFaulker is a big piece of the D group now and to lose a good player like that, it\u2019s never fun,\u201d Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson<\/a> said. \u201cOther guys had to step up and I feel like the whole D core stepped up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rasmussen Back On Ice For Red Wings<\/p>\n

Captain Dylan Larkin and goalie John Gibson were both given the day off from practice. McLellan indicated both would be good to go on Saturday afternoon. Gibson will get the start in goal.<\/p>\n

Forward Michael Rasmussen (lower-body injury) practiced with the team. He\u2019s missed the past nine games.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s getting real close to playing,\u201d McLellan said.<\/p>\n
