Daily Faceoff<\/a>: David Pagnotta, when asked about coach Bruce Cassidy and if he could be an option for the Edmonton Oilers this season.<\/p>\n

Johnny Lazerus: \u201cVic is very convinced that Bruce Cassidy will be coaching another team before this year ends. So do plans change when a guy like that \u2026<\/p>\n

Pagnotta: \u201cHe is very adamant about that.<\/p>\n

Lazerus: \u201cHe\u2019s like, he thinks the Oilers are going to hire Bruce Cassidy and have him coach them to the Cup final. We saw how the Jim Montgomery hiring played out last year. Like he became available and he\u2019s hired, what, like three, four days after he\u2019s fired. So do you think that could be the case, even though we\u2019re now, what, like two or three days into this Bruce Cassidy firing?<\/p>\n

There\u2019s nothing obvious to me that where I look at some of these contending teams and I go, that\u2019s the guy that\u2019s going to push them over the edge this season. Like I don\u2019t, I don\u2019t see this being a reverse kind of situation where there\u2019s another team that, you know, feels like you bring in that, that that finisher at the coaching position, and he can be the guy.<\/p>\n

Bruce Cassidy is a very good head coach, and he\u2019s going to get another job probably soon. But I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s necessarily now.<\/p>\n

Now the Oilers sign knob lock to a three-year extension in October. You got three more years on that contract starting July one. You got to pay that out.<\/p>\n

This summer, boys, for the Oilers, is going to be a make or break type of summer for this organization. And I think they\u2019re poised to make some bold moves. And basically do whatever they can, because I\u2019m not anticipating them winning the Stanley Cup this year, but I do think that if they make some bold moves next season, like that\u2019s all hands on deck for the Oilers as as being just narrowing in, just zeroing in, tunnel visioning on the 2027 Stanley Cup.<\/p>\n

And if you feel whatever changes you make in pieces you bring in work within Knoblauch\u2019s, system and messaging, then you stick with him.
