It has been a rocky few weeks for Ottawa\u2019s back end with the team having to use a dozen different blueliners since the Olympic break.\u00a0 At times, the injury recalls have turned around and gotten injured themselves.\u00a0 The latest was youngster Carter Yakemchuk<\/a> who was injured on Tuesday against Florida.<\/p>\n

Postmedia\u2019s Bruce Garrioch reports<\/a> that the previously undisclosed injury for the 20-year-old is one that saw him enter concussion protocol.\u00a0 Accordingly, there is no timetable for his return.\u00a0 Yakemchuk is in his first professional season and has spent the majority of it with AHL Belleville, notching 10 goals and 26 assists in 50 games.\u00a0 Injuries necessitated a promotion earlier this month and he has an assist in four appearances with Ottawa while logging a little under 14 minutes per night of playing time.<\/p>\n

There could be some good news on the horizon, however.\u00a0 Garrioch adds that Jake Sanderson<\/a> took part in today\u2019s optional skate in a regular (contact) jersey after having a non-contact sweater the day before.\u00a0 Sanderson is working his way back from a shoulder injury and could be cleared to return this weekend; they play Minnesota on Saturday and Carolina on Sunday.\u00a0 Sanderson is Ottawa\u2019s top blueliner and has 48 points in 64 games this season while averaging just under 25 minutes per night of action.<\/p>\n

Moving away from the back end, the league announced<\/a> today that forward Brady Tkachuk<\/a> was fined $2.5K for unsportsmanlike conduct in Thursday\u2019s game against Buffalo.\u00a0 He slashed Beck Malenstyn<\/a> from the bench, earning himself a two-minute minor on the play.\u00a0 The fine money goes to the Players\u2019 Emergency Assistance Fund.<\/p>\n
