JG Pageau scored for the Islanders.

Once again, the Flyers were the better team from the jump. This time, they held on for the win. A two-goal first period set the stage, and a goal in each of the second and third periods helped them hold on for the massive win.

Here’s how we got to the final score.

Read More: Flyers Game 76: Lines, Notes, & How to Watch @ Islanders

Flyers take the early lead

The Flyers got off to another strong start, dominating possession in their own zone.

Still, in the first 7 minutes, they could not get anything to beat Ilya Sorokin, a goalie they haven’t had much success against.

The Flyers got the first power play of the game following Adam Pelech getting a high stick on Tyson Foerster with just over 12 minutes to go. They didn’t score on the power play, but the Flyers did take the lead.

With about 6 minutes remaining in the first period, Owen Tippett forced a turnover at the blue line and started a rush with Travis Sanheim. He dished the puck before Sanheim (25) gave it right back, and a blazing Tippett (28) put it past Sorokin for the 1-0 lead.

That wasn’t it.

Before both teams could settle in, they did it again. This time, it was Alex Bump (4) who extended the Flyers’ lead after putting a shot through a tight spot on Sorokin. Matvei Michkov (25) and Noah Cates (26) had the assists.

Despite drawing blood from Sean Couturier, Marc Gatcomb only got two minutes for a high stick on Couturier. The Islanders killed that one with ease.

After a dominating period, the Flyers went into the first intermission up 2-0, and leading shots 12-2.

Read More: Friday’s Game Will Clarify the Flyers’ Path to the Playoffs

Michkov breaks slump; Islanders get on the board

Matvei Michkov started the third period in a way that he needed desperately.

Michkov (17) was behind the goal line when he sent the puck towards the net, deflecting off Sorokin’s van and into the net. With just under 3 minutes off the clock in the second period, the Flyers had a 3-0 lead.

The Islanders had their first real set of opportunities after Luke Glendening was called for a hook on rookie phenom Matthew Schaefer. Luckily for Philly, the Islander power play is not much better than the Flyers’. They got the easy kill.

The halfway marker ticked by, and the Flyers still had the Islanders under 10 shots on goal

New York eventually hit its second chance in the man advantages, with just about 7 minutes to play in the period, when Travis Konecny was called for tripping.

It was a better effort from the Islanders, but the Flyers still got the kill.

The Flyers didn’t get out of the period unmarked. JG Pageau (16) put the Islanders on the board with a little over 4 minutes to go. That brought the score to 3-1 heading into the second intermission.

Flyers close out the big win

Two minutes into the third period, Matvei Michkov got called for interference on Mathew Barzal, a penalty they killed off.

The Islanders slowly snuck back into the shot conversation, but the Flyers still controlled the game. They continued to fight and eventually extended their lead.

Alex Bump made a great play in the defensive end to break up an Islanders’ chance and moved the puck the other way. Bump (4) and Michkov (26) had a rush together, but trailing behind was Travis Sanheim. Michkov found Sanheim (10) behind them, who buried the shot. The Flyers’ lead was extended to 4-1.

With just a few ticks under 8 minutes to play, the Islanders emptied the net. Owen Tippett beat the Islander defense to a puck in the other end to beat an icing call, but they could not score.

The Flyers did not score on the empty net, but it did not matter. They held on for the massive 4-1 win vs. the New York Islanders on Friday.

What’s next

The Flyers return home to host the Boston Bruins on Sunday at Xfinity Mobile Arena, with puck drop at 3:30 p.m. EST.

Read More: Flyers Postgame Blog: Impressive Effort Overshadowed by Costly Mistakes

The Philadelphia Flyers (38-26-12) picked up a massive two points on Friday, beating the New York Islanders (42-30-5) 4-1…

[5112
1468,58537,36308,54280,5,159,4,1467,56,5205
0":"post-541419","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-philadelphia-flyers","8":"tag-flyers","9":"tag-flyers-final-score","10":"tag-flyers-game","11":"tag-flyers-score","12":"tag-hockey","13":"tag-new-york-islanders","14":"tag-nhl","15":"tag-philadelphia","16":"tag-philadelphia-flyers","17":"tag-philadelphiaflyers
["GET
