Now, it’s up to them to take advantage of the opportunity.

15 games were played on Saturday, and four of them had a direct impact on the Flyers’ playoff hopes and dreams. They needed regulation losses from the Red Wings, Senators, Jets, and Islanders for the ideal day.

That’s just what the Flyers got.

Every team in the 88-point tie all lost on Saturday, as well as the Islanders, who sit just one point ahead. Now, that puts Philly in a position to grab a playoff spot for the first time since mid-January.

After the back-to-back losses to the Capitals and Red Wings, the Flyers’ playoff hopes looked like they slipped out of their hands. But, they got some help from the other teams in the standings losing, keeping them in the fight.

Now, with a win or overtime loss on Sunday, the Flyers could move into the No. 3 seed in the Metropolitan Division.

Sunday will also have big implications on the Wild Card race. Here are the standings as of 4/5 in the mid-morning.

With Columbus losing on Saturday, the Flyers were able to reposition to the 4th spot in the Wild Card, and third among the four-way tie at 88 points. Both the Red Wings and Senators lost, keeping them in the tie. The Islanders losing as well does nothing but help the Flyers.

Read More: Flyers Game 77: Lines, Notes, & How to Watch vs. Bruins

Games to watch on Sunday for the Flyers’ playoff hopes

Sunday’s slate has 4 games that could have an impact on the Flyers’ postseason hunt. Here is the schedule, and as always, the bolded team is the best-case scenario winner.

Wild (98, C3) @ Red Wings (88, WC3) – 1:00 pm EST
Bruins (94, WC1) @ Flyers (88, WC4) – 3:30 pm EST
Hurricanes (104, M1) @ Senators (88, WC2) – 5:00 pm EST
Capitals (87, WC6) @ Rangers (73, WC10) – 7:00 pm EST

So, with the way things currently stand, the Flyers could end the day in 3rd in the Metropolitan as long as they earn a point. They have the fewest games tie-breaker over the Islanders (89), and just need a point to pass the Blue Jackets (88).

The Flyers won’t end up in a Wild Card spot on Sunday simply because they would jump past it for the Metro. However, both the Senators and Red Wings are in action once again. A loss today would do nothing but help the Flyers’ chances. The Wild Card is not out of the picture.

Washington is in action on Sunday and has sneakily re-entered the conversation. At 87 points, they could end up tying the Islanders at 89 points. If the Flyers lose and the Capitals win, they are in the third Metro spot. If the Flyers only get a point and the Capitals win, the Flyers would have the fewer games tie-breaker against the Capitals as well.

There is the chance that if the Senators and Red Wings lose, and the Flyers and Capitals win in regulation, the Flyers are 3rd in the Metro and the Capitals are in the second Wild Card spot.

The standings could look very different after Sunday.

Read More: PhHN Daily: Flyers in 4-Way Tie; Playoff Race; Rumored Cost to Trade for Knies

The NHL slate on Saturday fell perfectly for the Philadelphia Flyers.
