{"id":542253,"date":"2026-04-05T15:29:25","date_gmt":"2026-04-05T15:29:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/542253\/"},"modified":"2026-04-05T15:29:25","modified_gmt":"2026-04-05T15:29:25","slug":"linus-karlsson-continues-to-shine-despite-tough-season-for-canucks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/542253\/","title":{"rendered":"Linus Karlsson continues to shine despite tough season for Canucks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">VANCOUVER \u2014 Like he\u2019s done before this season, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/linus-karlsson\/8481024\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/linus-karlsson\/8481024\" target=\"_blank\">Linus Karlsson<\/a> played a good game on a team that had another bad night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Playing in his 100th NHL game, the rangy Vancouver Canuck right-winger scored two goals in a 7-4 loss to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/utah-mammoth\/68\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/utah-mammoth\/68\" target=\"_blank\">Utah Mammoth<\/a> on Saturday at Rogers Arena.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s nice to score, fun to be on the scoresheet again,\u201d said Karlsson. \u201cUnfortunately, we didn\u2019t get the win.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The 26-year-old from Landsbro, Sweden, admitted reaching the century mark in his NHL career was special.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThat\u2019s something you dream of,\u201d he said. \u201cHopefully I have a couple more in me, it\u2019s fun. You want to be a full-time NHLer and a hundred is a good start.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Karlsson opened the scoring for Vancouver with just 2:28 gone in the first period, skating in front of the Utah net and firing a shot between two defenceman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He struck again at 2:05 of the second period, deflecting in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/victor-mancini\/8483768\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/victor-mancini\/8483768\" target=\"_blank\">Victor Mancini<\/a> shot from the blue line to tie the game 2-2.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In many ways it was a typical night for the Canucks (22-46-8) who have the worst record in the NHL, and just one win in their last nine games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cLike most of the games we had some really good stretches but then we had some bad ones, too,\u201d said Karlsson. \u201cIt feels like we play so great sometimes and then we just fall back to the old (stuff). It\u2019s kind of frustrating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">After 73 games this season Karlsson sits third on the Canucks with 15 goals and fifth with 33 points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">It was his second two-goal game of the season, having scored twice in a 5-4 win in Boston on Dec. 20.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Trying to appreciate what he\u2019s done this season is difficult when the team is struggling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s hard to talk about myself when we don\u2019t win,\u201d he said. \u201cI haven\u2019t really thought about it. We\u2019re still playing. Maybe after the season I will start thinking about more personal stuff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cComing into the season I was trying to grab a spot in the lineup. I think I\u2019ve done a great job with that. I\u2019m probably going to think more about it after the season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/adam-foote\/8456283\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/adam-foote\/8456283\" target=\"_blank\">Adam Foote<\/a> doesn\u2019t hesitate to heap praise on the six-foot-one, 178-pound Karlsson who has played on the third line with centre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/teddy-blueger\/8476927\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/teddy-blueger\/8476927\" target=\"_blank\">Teddy Blueger<\/a> and left-winger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/max-sasson\/8484136\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/max-sasson\/8484136\" target=\"_blank\">Max Sasson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHe\u2019s having a good year,\u201d said Foote. \u201cHe\u2019s taken advantage of the situation. We\u2019re in that rebuild. He\u2019s getting a lot of ice and he\u2019s earned it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Karlsson was picked 87th overall by San Jose in the 2018 draft. He was acquired by the Canucks in exchange for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/jonathan-dahlen\/8479373\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/jonathan-dahlen\/8479373\" target=\"_blank\">Jonathan Dahlen<\/a> in a Feb. 25, 2019 trade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In May 2022 he signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Canucks. He played four games with Vancouver during the 2023-24 season. Last season he appeared in 23 games, collecting three goals and three assists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He also was a member of the Canucks AHL Abbotsford farm team that won the Calder Trophy. After collecting 23 goals and 16 assists in 32 regular-season games, he added another 14 goals and 12 assists in 24 playoff games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHe had a really good playoff last year in Abbotsford,\u201d said Foote. \u201cHe learned a lot. He\u2019s been working hard at his game. He continues to work.
