Vitaly Pinchuk, a Belarusian-born centre out of the KHL, isn\u2019t unfamiliar with the North American game. He spent the 2019\u201320 season with the Kingston Frontenacs (OHL) as a draft-eligible, recording 34 points (13 goals, 21 assists) in 54 games before the pandemic disrupted his path. He returned home to continue his development and has steadily improved his game since, ranking among the more highly touted undrafted free agents on the market.<\/p>\n
Now 24, Pinchuk is in the midst of a breakout season with Dinamo Minsk, building off an already strong 2024\u201325 campaign (43 points in 66 games). This year, he finished the regular season sixth in KHL scoring with 66 points (31 goals, 35 assists), playing on one of the league\u2019s most productive lines. Alongside two American-born forwards, Sam Anas (1st in league scoring) and Alex Limoges (3rd), the trio has been dominant. But don\u2019t let those numbers fool you, Pinchuk wasn\u2019t simply riding shotgun and has been a driving force in his own right.<\/p>\n
What immediately stands out is his frame. At 6-foot-3 and over 200 pounds, he has the size NHL teams covet. While he doesn\u2019t consistently play a heavy game, much of his production comes from the interior. He thrives in tight spaces, using quick hands to manipulate defenders and goaltenders, and shows the ability to either finish plays himself or distribute with sharp, one-touch vision. There\u2019s no question that there\u2019s legitimate offensive upside here.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
As with most undrafted players in their mid-20s, however, there are questions. For Pinchuk, they center around his skating. His edges are solid, and he can create with subtle deception through quick jukes and flashy maneuvers, but his stride and overall speed come across as average. Given his size, there\u2019s also room for him to play with more physical intent on a consistent basis. At 6-foot-3, he has the size, but isn\u2019t an ace in battle situations or along the boards. As such, there are bound to be some transitional hiccups as he re-acclimates to the North American game.<\/p>\n
That said, he remains dangerous around the net, wins faceoffs at a respectable 51.3% rate (on over 1,100 draws this season), and brings a well-rounded offensive skill set. He\u2019s a player that could offer intriguing mid-tier scoring on a team\u2019s middle-six and provide obvious benefit on the power play in a bumper, or goal line role.<\/p>\n
Dinamo Minsk finished second in the Western Conference and has already advanced to the second round of the playoffs with a 4\u20130 opening series sweep. With a deep run expected, Pinchuk\u2019s profile will only continue to gain traction. If he decides to make the jump, he\u2019ll be one of the more sought-after European free agents on the market. He could be the perfect acquisition for an Oilers team looking for production down the lineup.<\/p>\n
