BUFFALO, N.Y. (WHEC) \u2013 The wait is now over! The Buffalo Sabres clinched a playoff berth after the New York Rangers defeated the Detroit Red Wings, ending a 15-year drought.<\/p>\n
At times during the wait, it probably felt as if the end would never come. But with head coach Lindy Ruff back at the helm \u2013 the same coach to last lead the Buffalo Sabres to the playoffs \u2013 there\u2019s a reason to celebrate.<\/p>\n
But with five regular seasons games to play, the Sabres aren\u2019t resting on their laurels. <\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s no celebration,\u201d said Ruff. \u201cWe still have a lot of work to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Part of that work is ending a two-game losing streak after losing to the Washington Capitals, 6-3, on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The Sabres are at 100 points, but are in play for the top seed in the Eastern Conference. A strong finish could give them home ice advantage for a few rounds, or at least for the first round of the playoffs.<\/p>\n
