{"id":543469,"date":"2026-04-06T08:03:57","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T08:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/543469\/"},"modified":"2026-04-06T08:03:57","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T08:03:57","slug":"gabe-perreault-will-cuylle-combine-for-unique-ny-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/543469\/","title":{"rendered":"Gabe Perreault, Will Cuylle combine for unique NY history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/nhl\/new-york-rangers\/3-rangers-trade-candidates-missing-2026-stanley-cup-playoffs\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Rangers have already been eliminated<\/a> from contention for a spot in the 2026 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, but that&#8217;s not stopping the team from playing some great hockey of late.<\/p>\n<p>The Rangers followed up their 4-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings at Madison Square Garden on Saturday with another dominant win on Sunday at home, crushing the Washington Capitals in an 8-1 win.<\/p>\n<p>Both New York wins featured a hat-trick scorer, with Gabe Perreault pulling off the feat against Detroit and Will Cuylle replicating the feat\u00a0against the Capitals.<\/p>\n<p>The back-to-back hat tricks by Perreault and Cuylle were the first of their kind in Rangers history <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NYR_PR\/status\/2040968940919095573\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">in over four decades<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Rangers have had a player record a hat trick in two consecutive games for the first time since 2016 and on consecutive days for the first time since 1982,\u201d the team shared via a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>The sudden offensive surge by New York could have come much earlier in the 2025-26 season, which <a href=\"https:\/\/clutchpoints.com\/nhl\/nhl-stories\/clutchpoints-nhl-power-rankings-week-23-golden-knights-maple-leafs-changes\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">would have improved the Rangers&#8217; chances<\/a> of making the playoffs. Still, winning a lot of games down the stretch, even though they are already out of the running for the playoffs, gives the Rangers and their fans something to feel good about in a lost season.<\/p>\n<p>Up next for New York is its final game of the season at home on Wednesday against the playoff-bound Buffalo Sabres.
