New York is only a few months into a retooling, and major moves are expected to continue this summer. Drury previously rolled the dice by opting against moving star center Vincent Trocheck at the March 6 trade deadline. The exec, however, is hoping for a bidding war ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

Outside of shipping out Trocheck, the Rangers could also offload Braden Schneider and Alexis Lafreniere this summer. Nevertheless, a full-blown rebuild involving Mika Zibanejad and Adam Fox is unlikely to occur. On top of trading away quality players, New York has a very important draft coming up as well. The Rangers currently have seven selections within the first three rounds of the 2026 NHL draft.

For New York to successfully retool fairly quickly, the draft is going to be imperative. Drury and Co. simply have to take advantage of the plethora of top picks that they have. The Rangers, however, will also be looking to acquire some young, established NHL players this summer. With free agency looking a bit thin, the team may be forced to make a major trade to get better.

Bleacher Report’s Lyle Richardson is now claiming that New York could very well get involved in a pursuit for Vancouver Canucks star Brock Boeser. The winger only just agreed to a seven-year, $50.7 million contract ($7.25 million AAV) extension with his current club in 2025. Nevertheless, Vancouver’s future is very precarious, and team officials are open to trading just about anyone on the roster.

New York Rangers Could Reunite Star Center With Brock Boeser

GettyBrock Boeser could give the Rangers an offensive boost this summer.

Although the Canucks are by far the worst team in the NHL, Boeser has put up decent numbers during the 2025-26 season. The star forward currently has 21 goals and 23 assists (44 points) in 69 games in the current campaign. As Richardson points out, the New York Rangers and Canucks are certainly familiar with each other. New York previously acquired center J.T. Miller from Vancouver in a blockbuster trade in January 2025.

Potentially reuniting Boeser and Miller could be beneficial to the Rangers. Both stars had career years while playing alongside each other in Vancouver during the 2023-24 season. Boeser recorded 73 points, including 40 goals, during the specific campaign. Miller, on the other hand, posted 103 points to help lead the Canucks to the Pacific Division title.

New York has the Pieces to Make a Major Move

Looking ahead, the Rangers undoubtedly need quality goal scorers. In fact, New York is averaging just 2.90 goals per game in 2025-26. This figure is currently tied for 22nd in the entire league. Because of this, Boeser could become a solid option for Drury this summer. The Rangers can also easily handle the forward’s contract and have the necessary draft picks/young players to help strike a deal.

New York, however, would have plenty of competition in the Boeser sweepstakes. It was recently revealed that the Boston Bruins have been eyeing the star winger for years now. Much like the Rangers, the Bruins also have several top draft picks to make a major move. While multiple teams may ask about his availability in the offseason, Boeser has to accept a deal. The forward currently has a no-trade clause in his contract with Vancouver.

Christopher Moore Christopher Moore has been a Heavy.com contributor since 2025.
