For the first time in a few years, the head coach is using a whistle, and the players were in different colored jerseys by position, different from the simple two colors used under Roy.<\/p>\n<p>DeBoer will be demanding of his players<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5r\">With three days of practice under DeBoer before Thursday&#8217;s crucial game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, DeBoer began laying down the structure of his system. Though the Islanders will need some help to get into the playoffs, having these days off is <a href=\"https:\/\/eyesonisles.com\/peter-deboer-grateful-for-ny-islanders-opportunity-that-came-out-of-left-field-01knj8e664nb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">incredibly valuable<\/a> with a new head coach to make sure they get the job done on their behalf.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-3\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5u\">\u201cWe\u2019re going to tweak some things,\u201d DeBoer said after his first practice. \u201cThis is a good team. There are good people in there. They were doing a lot of good things for big parts of this year. So we just try and get that back on track.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"5x\">Aside from his structure that has taken him to at least the Conference Finals with each of the three other teams he has led, <a href=\"https:\/\/eyesonisles.com\/ny-islanders-gm-mathieu-darche-explains-stunning-roy-firing-deboer-hire-timing-01knhq29wz0y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">DeBoer has some non-negotiables<\/a> that every player must follow if they want to continue seeing the ice.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-5\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-secondary my-f-1\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"60\">\u201cIt&#8217;s the details of the game,\u201d DeBoer said. \u201cLine changes, back-checking, effort, stopping in D-zone coverage.
