The Columbus Blue Jackets<\/a> are preparing for a massive showdown with the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. Columbus and Detroit are both in contention for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. And whoever wins this contest will get a major leg up in the race for the final spot. This contest is one that both the players and head coach Rick Bowness are taking seriously.<\/p>\n

The Blue Jackets suffered a loss to the Winnipeg Jets in their last contest. Following this loss, the players held a players-only meeting to discuss how to proceed. Before facing Detroit, Bowness threw his support behind his players<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re frustrated, and I get that,\u201d Bowness said, via NHL.com. \u201cBut don\u2019t ever think they don\u2019t care, and don\u2019t ever think they\u2019re not trying. They are. We need some better efforts without a doubt, and we\u2019re going to get them. This is a proud group. I\u2019ve said from Day 1 I love working with them. I still believe in them.\u201d<\/p>\n

None of the Blue Jackets players will publicly say what went down in that meeting. However, they clearly want to address their issues. Columbus has lost each of their last six games<\/a>. And they are staring down the barrel of a heartbreaking end to their season.<\/p>\n

Columbus still has four games remaining in the season. They are well within range of a playoff spot at this time. In saying this, they cannot afford to drop points at this stage. Their contest on Tuesday against the Red Wings is one of the most important contests of the regular season, and fans of any team should tune in if they can.<\/p>\n
