{"id":545727,"date":"2026-04-07T15:23:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T15:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/545727\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T15:23:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T15:23:11","slug":"toronto-maple-leafs-hire-firm-to-assist-with-search-for-new-hockey-operations-head","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/545727\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto Maple Leafs hire firm to assist with search for new hockey operations head"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/toronto-maple-leafs\/10\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/toronto-maple-leafs\/10\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> have taken a step forward in their search for Brad Treliving\u2019s replacement after his firing last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">According to TSN Hockey Insider Chris Johnston, the Leafs hired Neil Glasberg and PBI Sports to assist with their new search for a new head of hockey operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Last week, Maple Leaf Sports &amp; Entertainment president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/article\/pelley-leafs-looking-for-data-centric-hockey-ops-leader-to-replace-treliving\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/article\/pelley-leafs-looking-for-data-centric-hockey-ops-leader-to-replace-treliving\/\">Keith Pelley told reporters during a news conference<\/a> he is looking for a \u201cdata-centric\u201d head of hockey ops, but said he is open to hiring either a new general manger, the role Treliving held, or a president of hockey operations to lead the club\u2019s vision moving forward. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThe most important decision that I will likely make in my tenure,\u201d he said. \u201cAlthough I will be measured and methodical, I will have to expedite the process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Can confirm the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/leafs?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">#leafs<\/a> have hired Neil Glasberg and PBI Sports to assist with their search for a new head of hockey operations.<\/p>\n<p>First to report: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lukefoxjukebox?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">@lukefoxjukebox<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Chris Johnston (@reporterchris) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/reporterchris\/status\/2041518490486550643?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">April 7, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reported on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/article\/insider-trading-latest-on-leafs-gm-search\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/article\/insider-trading-latest-on-leafs-gm-search\/\">Insider Trading last week<\/a> that the Leafs had hoped to have a firm in place by the end of this week. LeBrun expanded on the search during the segment. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cMy understanding is that he continues to have dialogue with a number of people around the league so that when that search firm is hired he will probably hand over a list of eight to ten names to get the process going. What is this interview process labelled, is it for a GM? Is it for a president of hockey operations? I was told on Thursday that it is for a head of hockey operations, and from there we\u2019ll see where it goes,\u201d LeBrun said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI think Keith Pelley wants to stay as flexible as possible in terms of whether it\u2019s just a GM hire, or a GM and a president of hockey operations and whether it\u2019s one person that handles both or not, they don\u2019t want to get boxed in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Pelley said he believes the Leafs do not need a full rebuild, but added the new hockey operations head would also have a say in the franchise\u2019s direction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cA rebuild is needed when you are starting from scratch,\u201d Pelley said last week. \u201cIf we\u2019re able to surround them with the right culture, with the right structure, with the right personnel, both on and off the ice, then I would say that we would be in a retool, not in a rebuild. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHaving said that\u2026 I will always wait for input from the new head of hockey operations.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Leafs fired Treliving near the end of his third season with the team after he was hired to replace Kyle Dubas in May of 2023. Treliving\u2019s Leafs were 31-30-13 with 75 points in 74 games at the time of his firing on March 30 and were officially eliminated from playoff contention last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Treliving was in his second stint as an NHL GM after being at the helm of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/calgary-flames\/20\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/team-page\/calgary-flames\/20\" target=\"_blank\">Calgary Flames<\/a> from 2014 to 2023. <\/p>\n<p>Berube awaits word on future<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Leafs may be overhauling their front office, but their decision on head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/craig-berube\/8445440\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/craig-berube\/8445440\" target=\"_blank\">Craig Berube<\/a> appears that it will carry into the off-season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Berube is under contract through 2027-28 but has repeatedly said he remains focused on finishing the regular season before thinking about his future. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m focused on coaching the team, honestly,\u201d Berube told reporters last week. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cTomorrow I got a game, that\u2019s what I\u2019m doing. I can\u2019t control that [decision by management]. Whatever happens happens, but I\u2019m the coach here now and my focus is the team. That\u2019s it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHe\u2019s been great,\u201d said veteran centre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/john-tavares\/8475166\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/john-tavares\/8475166\" target=\"_blank\">John Tavares<\/a> of Berube. \u201cThere\u2019s a ton of respect for him in our locker room. We know how challenging it can be &#8230; He\u2019s done a really good job of continuing to try to push the right buttons and understanding when you got to put the arm around [a player] or when the time is to push the group.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Either way, Pelley indicated the new head of hockey ops will have a say in Berube\u2019s future.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cHis role for the hockey club doesn\u2019t change,\u201d Pelley said. \u201cOnce we have a new head of hockey in place, if that recommendation [to fire] is around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/craig-berube\/8445440\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tsn.ca\/nhl\/player\/craig-berube\/8445440\" target=\"_blank\">Craig Berube<\/a> at that particular time, we will listen.
