{"id":546752,"date":"2026-04-08T04:47:14","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T04:47:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/546752\/"},"modified":"2026-04-08T04:47:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T04:47:14","slug":"blue-jackets-show-theyre-going-to-fight-to-the-end-with-shootout-win-against-red-wings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nhl\/546752\/","title":{"rendered":"Blue Jackets show they&#8217;re &#8216;going to fight to the end&#8217; with shootout win against Red Wings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The defenseman skated slowly to the right, turned into the middle and picked the upper left corner, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/news\/columbus-blue-jackets-detroit-red-wings-game-recap-april-7-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Blue Jackets defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-3<\/a> after forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/adam-fantilli-8484166\" title=\"Adam Fantilli\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Adam Fantilli<\/a>\u00a0tied the game 3-3 with 16.2 seconds left in regulation.<\/p>\n<p>The Blue Jackets (39-27-12) reached 90 points, putting them one point ahead of the Red Wings and New York Islanders.<\/p>\n<p>They remain two points behind the Philadelphia Flyers, who defeated the New Jersey Devils 5-1 and are third in the Metropolitan Division, and the Ottawa Senators, who defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-2 and hold the second wild card into the playoffs from the Eastern Conference.<\/p>\n<p>Each team has four games remaining in the regular season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to build on it,\u201d Werenski said. \u201cWe\u2019re going to keep going. We\u2019re going to fight to the end and see what happens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Columbus badly needed this one.<\/p>\n<p>Last season, the Blue Jackets finished one spot out of the playoffs in the East, two points behind the Montreal Canadiens, who earned the second wild card in the conference.<\/p>\n<p>Entering Tuesday, they were 0-5-1 in their past six games and out of a playoff spot, after they had replaced Dean Evason with Rick Bowness as coach on Jan. 12, gone on a 19-3-4 run and risen to second in the Metro.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe gotta start winning and winning now,\u201d Fantilli said Tuesday morning. \u201cThat\u2019s not lost on us. We know that. I was saying to the guys at dinner last night, like, \u2018The feeling from last year is still too fresh to have it happen again.\u2019 So, we\u2019re going to do everything we can to not have that happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Columbus kept coming back Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Defenseman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/justin-faulk-8475753\" title=\"Justin Faulk\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Justin Faulk<\/a>\u00a0gave the Red Wings a 2-1 lead at 6:27 of the second period. But Werenski tied it 2-2 on the power play at 10:59 of the second.<\/p>\n<p>Faulk gave the Red Wings a 3-2 lead at 15:14 of the third period. But then forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/sean-monahan-8477497\" title=\"Sean Monahan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sean Monahan<\/a> won a face-off in the left circle of the offensive zone, forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/kirill-marchenko-8480893\" title=\"Kirill Marchenko\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kirill Marchenko<\/a>\u00a0and Werenski made quick passes to get the puck to Fantilli, and he fired a shot from the right face-off dot past goalie <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/john-gibson-8476434\" title=\"John Gibson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Gibson<\/a>\u00a0with 16.2 seconds to go.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou got to love our effort,\u201d Bowness said. \u201cWe\u2019re down 3-2 in the last five minutes. We didn\u2019t give up, and we kept pushing.
