Let\u2019s go gang, we\u2019re jumping onto the Flyers bandwagon. Come on! There\u2019s plenty of room, the ice is cold, and the orange and the black is giving us our first reason in the last six years to even consider jumping on their bandwagon for a fun postseason run.<\/p>\n

The Flyers inched ever closer to a postseason berth with last night\u2019s 5-1 victory over the hated Devils, increasing their chances to claim a playoff spot to 70% and sweeping a season series over New Jersey for the first time in 42 years. It\u2019s also increased the usage of the word \u201cwagon\u201d in this city by 9000%, as the Flyers certainly look like the perennial wagon rolling into the playoffs. <\/p>\n

So why oh why do we keep seeing some of the \u201cdedicated\u201d Flyers fans in this city getting their Bobby Clarke jerseys in a twist over the sudden interest in \u201ctheir\u201d team. Everyone should be welcomed onto the Flyers bandwagon, because honestly this is the first time in YEARS that they\u2019ve given this city a reason to be excited. <\/p>\n

Holy shit we\u2019ve suffered through the likes of Dave Hakstol, Ron Hextall, Chuck Fletcher, Alan Vigneault, Mike Yeo, Torts, and Brad Shaw to get where we are today, so move your ass over and let the casual fan onto this ride. <\/p>\n

I asked this same question back in 2020 when the Flyers last made the playoffs\u2026can a bandwagon fan be welcomed back<\/a> into the Flyers faithful? Here\u2019s what I wrote:<\/p>\n

I\u2019m a bandwagon fan; what can I say! Am I so wrong with the Flyers, though? Can I jump back on this wagon and not worry about getting clotheslined off from the diehards that sat through season after season filled to the brim with the likes of Rob Zepp, Cal Heeter, Petr Mrazek, Calvin Pickard, or the countless other pieces of garbage that manned the pipes for the Flyers?<\/p>\n

Can I jump back in, just like that? Can I pretend like nothing happened, show up at watch parties with a brand spanking new Konecny jersey, and jump right back in?<\/p>\n

Or do I need to repent for my sins? Pay a penance? Self-flagellation with a knotted Roman \u010cechm\u00e1nek jersey to make up for my years of absence?<\/p>\n

FUCK YES I can jump on the bandwagon. Anyone can jump on the bandwagon. I think that\u2019s perhaps the biggest difference between me as a fan now and me as a fan in my youth. In my teens and my twenties I absolutely scoffed at the notion of only paying attention to a team when they were \u201cgood,\u201d sticking with them through thick and thin. <\/p>\n

But now? Well, it\u2019s not as black and white anymore. When a team like the Flyers is actively as incompetent as they have been for the majority of the last 13 years or so, it\u2019s now my opinion that it is perfectly acceptable to put them on the pay no mind list. If they\u2019re not going to try and win, or they\u2019re going to try and do so in a half-assed way that has absolutely no chance of success (Chuck Fletcher\u2019s \u2018competitive rebuild\u2019 comes to mind), than I\u2019m not paying them any attention. <\/p>\n

They didn\u2019t deserve our time. Now they do. It\u2019s as simple as that. You didn\u2019t have to suffer through the failings of Nolan Patrick and German Rubtsov in order to enjoy the success of Porter Martone and Tyson Foerster, for fucks sake. <\/p>\n

So come on, hop aboard the bandwagon and enjoy the ride. They might not make the playoffs for another six years after this.<\/p>\n
