Toronto Maple Leafs<\/a> goaltender Anthony Stolarz<\/a> exited Wednesday\u2018s game against the Washington Capitals<\/a> in the first period after suffering a lower-body injury while making a save.<\/p>\n

Stolarz kicked out his left leg to make a stop and immediately began writhing in pain in the crease.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old was attended to by the team\u2019s medical staff and was eventually helped off the ice and into the locker room.<\/p>\n

Joseph Woll<\/a> took over in net for the Maple Leafs at the 2:34 mark of the opening frame.<\/p>\n

After the game, head coach Craig Berube would not rule Stolarz out for the rest of the season, but said that he has to undergo medical testing.<\/p>\n

Goaltender Artur Akhtyamov will make his NHL debut for the Leafs on Thursday against the New York Islanders.<\/p>\n

Stolarz was making his 26th appearance of the season for the Leafs and entered the game with a 10-10-3 record and a 3.29 goals-against average.<\/p>\n

The Edison, New Jersey native is in his second season in Toronto after he joined the team as a free agent in July of 2024.<\/p>\n

The Leafs also announced that defenceman Brandon Carlo<\/a> (lower body) and forward Dakota Joshua<\/a> (upper body) were hurt during Wednesday\u2019s game against the Capitals.<\/p>\n

Berube said that both players will miss Thursday\u2019s game against the Islanders.<\/p>\n

Forward Luke Haymes and defenceman William Villeneuve will both draw into the lineup for the Leafs and make their NHL debuts, according to Berube.<\/p>\n

D Brandon Carlo (lower body) and F Dakota Joshua (upper body) will not return to tonight\u2019s game.<\/p>\n

Carlo played 12:07, took 19 shifts and registered one shot on goal before leaving the game.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old was skating in his 54th game of the season for the Leafs and has contributed seven assists.<\/p>\n

Joshua had 8:30 of ice time before departing the action and collected two hits and one shot on goal against the Capitals.<\/p>\n

The Dearborn, Michigan native has 10 goals and eight assists for the Leafs in 55 games this season, his first with the franchise.<\/p>\n
