Carolina played the game without several key players, including defensemen Jaccob Slavin<\/a> and Jalen Chatfield<\/a>, as well as forwards Jordan Staal<\/a>, Jordan Martinook<\/a>, Seth Jarvis<\/a>, Sebastian Aho<\/a> and Andrei Svechnikov<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As a result, the team recalled forwards Skyler Brind’Amour<\/a>, Bradly Nadeau<\/a> and Josiah Slavin<\/a>, and defenseman Charles Alexis Legault<\/a> from Chicago of the American Hockey League on Wednesday. All four were in the lineup against the\u00a0Blackhawks.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to kind of know your people,\u201d Carolina coach Rod Brind\u2019Amour said. \u201cThey fit perfectly. They know how to play. They know how we play. Obviously, they\u2019re not replacing the guys we had out, but it helps when you have guys who know what they\u2019re doing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought they did a great job. It\u2019s not the easiest thing to throw all of them in, but I thought they did a great job on the (penalty) kill. Everywhere we had to put them in, there was no, \u2018Uh, oh, they\u2019re on the ice,\u2019 type of thing. Kudos to those guys.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anton Frondell<\/a> scored twice for his first\u00a0multigoal game,\u00a0Louis Crevier<\/a> had two assists, and Spencer Knight<\/a>\u00a0made 15 saves for the Blackhawks (28-37-14), who have lost two in a row and seven of their past eight games.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a tough night for us,\u201d Chicago coach Jeff Blashill said. \u201cWe didn\u2019t have it. The one thing that we didn\u2019t do well enough is compete on the puck, so that\u2019s a disappointing thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sean Walker<\/a> gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead 19 seconds into the first period. He took a cross-ice feed from Nikolaj Ehlers<\/a>\u00a0and scored on a wrist shot while moving into the slot from the top of the right face-off circle.<\/p>\n

Frondell tied the game 1-1 at 10:48.\u00a0Crevier skated down the right wall in front of the net and lost the puck when he tried to get around Carolina defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere<\/a>, but Frondell was there to bury the loose puck with a wrist shot.<\/p>\n

Stankoven\u2019s 20th goal of the season put the Hurricanes back ahead 2-1 at 17:10. After taking a neutral zone face-off, Stankoven moved into the offensive zone, fought off Chicago defenseman Sam Rinzel<\/a>, and scored with a wrist shot.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t do that too often,\u201d Stankoven said. \u201cYeah, I just saw off the draw a good chance to jump and kind of steal that puck. I tried to take it to the net and get it up, and luckily enough, I was able to beat the goalie.\u201d<\/p>\n

This is the first time Stankoven has reached the 20-goal mark in his NHL career.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s awesome,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s what you dream of as a kid. A lot of work, for sure. I know it\u2019s far from over. I\u2019m going to keep getting better every game.\u201d<\/p>\n
