The Anaheim Ducks<\/a> have rewarded Pat Verbeek with a new deal.<\/p>\n

The team announced a multi-year extension for their general manager on Friday.<\/p>\n

Proud to announce General Manager Pat Verbeek has agreed to a multi-year contract extension.<\/p>\n

Mike Stapleton has been elevated to Senior Vice President & Associate General Manager.<\/p>\n

The Ducks also announced the promotion of Mike Stapleton<\/a> to senior vice president and associate general manager.<\/p>\n

The Ducks are poised to make a return to the playoffs this spring after a seven-year absence.<\/p>\n

\u201cPat has done exactly as we hoped, having turned the Ducks into what we believe are perennial contenders for the next decade,\u201d Ducks owners Henry and Susan Samueli said in a statement. \u201cWe are beyond exited to see the team continue developing into what is already an exciting, winning team ready to take the next step.\u201d<\/p>\n

Verbeek, 61, is in his fifth season on the job, having come over from the Detroit Red Wings<\/a> with whom he\u2019d served in the front office since 2006. <\/p>\n

\u201cMaintaining stability within our hockey operations department for the years to come will be important for the development of our team,\u201d president Aaron Teats said. \u201cOur hockey staff has worked tirelessly to build a talented group our community can be proud of.\u201d <\/p>\n

A native of Sarnia, Ont., Verbeek spent 20 seasons in the NHL from 1982 to 2002, winning a Stanley Cup in 1999. A two-time All-Star, Verbeek scored 522 goals and added 540 assists in 1,424 games with the New Jersey Devils<\/a>, Hartford Whalers, New York Rangers<\/a>, Dallas Stars<\/a> and Red Wings.<\/p>\n

Internationally, Verbeek represented Canada on multiple occasions, including as part of a gold medal-winning effort at the 1991 IIHF World Championships in Italy.<\/p>\n

Stapleton, 59, has been with the Ducks since 2015. Also from Sarnia, Stapleton appeared in 697 games over 14 NHL seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks<\/a>, Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>, Edmonton Oilers<\/a>, Winnipeg Jets<\/a>\/Phoenix Coyotes, Atlanta Thrashers, New York Islanders<\/a> and Vancouver Canucks<\/a>.<\/p>\n
