Tyler Myers made one thing clear after he joined the Dallas Stars. He wasn\u2019t a fan<\/a> of his nickname \u201cChaos Giraffe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Well, unfortunately for Myers, the chaos has seemingly followed him to Texas.<\/p>\n

The former Vancouver Canucks defenceman joined Dallas before the trade deadline after a long, drawn-out saga.<\/p>\n

On the surface, it seemed like there was a fit for the veteran defencemen in the Stars Cup-contending lineup.<\/p>\n

Myers played his best hockey in Vancouver when he was slotted into a sheltered, third-pairing role. That was the case when he initially joined the Stars, but recent injuries have forced him into a larger role.<\/p>\n

Defenceman Nils Lundkvist missed Thursday\u2019s game against Minnesota due to illness. Then, defenceman Miro Heiskanen exited with an injury.<\/p>\n

Those two absences pushed Myers up the Stars lineup, causing Stars fans to pick up on some of the flaws in his game.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m gonna say it, Tyler Myers can sometimes be a liability on defense,\u201d one fan said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cTyler Myers is a full tier below the likes of Jani Hakanp\u00e4\u00e4 and Cody Ceci,\u201d said another<\/a>.<\/p>\n

More than one Stars fan was reminded of Ceci after watching Myers play on Thursday.<\/p>\n

His shoddy defensive play even caught the attention of some Wild fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cTyler Myers is the equalizer,\u201d a Minnesota fan noted<\/a>. \u201cThe more ice he sees, the better for the Wild.<\/p>\n

Ironically, Myers wasn\u2019t even on the ice for a goal against during the Stars\u2019 5-4 win over Minnesota. However, a late second-period holding penalty did lead to a power-play goal for the Wild.<\/p>\n

Myers was second among Stars defencemen, playing 22:38 on Thursday night. Before that, he had averaged just 16:34 per game.<\/p>\n

So far in Dallas, Myers has three assists in 13 games. His 53.1 expected goals percentage is third-best among Stars blueliners since the trade, although the caveat is that he\u2019s largely been used in a sheltered role.<\/p>\n

Even though his increased usage exposed some flaws, some Stars fans noted that his subpar play wasn\u2019t just an issue that popped up on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s been the worst player in every game since his first week,\u201d a fan said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cTyler Myers has been horrible since the trade,\u201d said another<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Some Stars fans even tried to pin Myers\u2019 uneven play on the Canucks.<\/p>\n

\u201cProbably doesn\u2019t remember how to play in a real structured system after all those years in Vancouver,\u201d one fan said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Regardless of how Stars fans feel, Myers could be in line for a bigger role than Dallas might want.<\/p>\n

The Stars announced on Friday that Heiskanen was undergoing an MRI<\/a> for a lower-body injury suffered on Thursday, putting his status for the beginning of NHL postseason hockey in doubt.<\/p>\n

Regardless of how Stars fans feel, Canucks fans should be rooting for Myers and the Stars in Round One. Dallas is locked into a matchup against Quinn Hughes and the Wild. If Dallas can defeat their division rivals, the Canucks will lock in a higher selection<\/a> in the first round of the NHL Draft.<\/p>\n
