The trophy is awarded to the NHL player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.

Just like last season, Kerfoot played a big role in helping the Mammoth maintain an everyday presence throughout the Salt Lake City community. The veteran forward and his family continue to be a major voice of women’s hockey in the state, and it’s something that the Mammoth and Utah value heavily.

When the Mammoth hockey ops relocated from Arizona, one of the main goals for owner Ryan Smith was to make sure the players and the team were ingrained in the community. Especially being in a brand new state that had never had an NHL team before, making a good first impression was important. That’s exactly what Kerfoot did and has done since that very first day.

Kerfoot has continued to use whatever resources he can to engage with the community, more specifically, young female hockey players. He and his wife, Melissa, have once again donated their personal tickets for every home game this season to those players. Kerfoot has also made it a priority of his to give them the best gameday experiences, including fist-bumping players taking the ice, watching warmups from the bench, and talking with them before games.

Related: Mammoth’s Clayton Keller Nominated for 2026 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy

The veteran forward also teamed up with the local chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters to provide 18 pairs of mentors and mentees with tickets, all of whom had never been to an NHL game before.

Additionally, Kerfoot hosted a free all-girls hockey clinic with support from the Mammoth over this past summer. With help from Hilary Knight and Mellissa Channell-Watkins, more than 200 girls attended the clinic and were on the ice throughout the whole day. Kerfoot spent time with every participant, introducing himself to everyone.

We’re so proud to support the growth of girls hockey in Utah.

With help from Alexander Kerfoot and our community, the future of the game is just getting started.#WomensHistoryMonth | #TusksUp pic.twitter.com/VKFbAhZAOD

— x – Utah Mammoth (@utahmammoth) March 21, 2026

On top of all of that, Kerfoot made community appearances at Primary Children’s Hospital, Make-A-Wish, Utah Mammoth Learn to Play, and Utah Mammoth Youth throughout the season. He has continued to make the Utah community one of the things he really values and treasures, and it’s shown with his contributions not just this past season but for his whole tenure with the Mammoth.

“Alexander exemplifies the very definition of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy,” said president of hockey operations Chris Armstrong. “The leadership example that he displays in our locker room and on the ice is exceeded only by his selfless commitment to our community. While he has battled injuries throughout his 2025-26 campaign, he has been a big part of the Mammoth’s recent five-game winning streak, recording four points across those games, three of which have been goals.

Kerfoot joins 31 other nominees from each NHL team for the King Clancy Trophy. The winner will be selected by a committee of senior NHL executives led by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and former winners of the award. The winner will receive a $25,000 donation to benefit a charity or charities of their choice. They may also elect that his Club receives a grant from the NHL, up to $20,000, to help organize a special activation related to his humanitarian cause.

Aleksander Barkov won the award last season for his work with the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital.
