After going pointless through the first eight games of the 2025-26 campaign, some were worried that his regular season was going to be like the previous two. He tallied 52 points in 2023-24 and 48 in 2024-25. The way the 2025-26 season started, was the Russian forward going to have a third straight so-so year? In the end, it went differently, and for the better.

Svechnikov’s Career Season

Despite the slow start, Svechnikov has tallied 31 goals and 70 points in the last 71 games. What makes those numbers significant is that they are new career highs for the 26-year-old. The last time he had 30 goals and 69 points was during the 2021-22 season, when he did it in 78 games. Even if it took him one extra game, Svechnikov has reached the 70-point club for the first time in his career, and his 31 goals are a new benchmark. He reached those milestones in the Hurricanes’ 4-1 win over the Utah Mammoth on Saturday night (April 11).

Related: Hurricanes’ Andrei Svechnikov Is Back as their Dynamic Power Forward

For Svechnikov to reach those milestones after the slow start really exemplifies how he did not let it derail his season. He needed to get back to his pre-ACL surgery form, especially if the Hurricanes want to win their second Stanley Cup in franchise history. His style of play as the team’s power forward is essential for a deep playoff run. His speed, size, shooting ability, and all-around game are an X-factor for the Hurricanes.

Carolina Hurricanes right wing Andrei Svechnikov celebrates his goal against the Boston Bruins (James Guillory-Imagn Images)

What has helped him this season has been being on the top line with Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis, both of whom are trying to chase career highs themselves. Once he was linked with those two, along with the first power-play unit, it’s been all steam ahead for Svechnikov.

His effort has not gone unnoticed within the locker room. After the win on Saturday night, captain Jordan Staal was asked about Svechnikov’s milestones. He stated, “He’s been steady all year long… For the most part, he’s just been on the puck, tenacious, physical, strong, and the player we know he can be. It’s shown all year long. He’s just been a lot steadier, and it’s good to see him rewarded.”

Related: Hurricanes’ Stankoven & Blake Continue to Check Off Career Milestones

It speaks to how much the guys really want to see Svechnikov be himself as a confident player who’s lethal to score at any time on any night. Once he is rolling, he is hard to stop, especially on the scoresheet. Over the last seven games, he has scored six goals, including a three-game goal streak. Overall, Svechnikov has been on a roll since Oct. 28 and has not slowed down. Tallying 31 goals and 70 points in 71 games shows how dialed in he has been.

Overall, this has been the season everyone was waiting to see from Svechnikov in a couple of seasons. He is currently tied for his career high in assists (39) with two games left. Is there a chance to complete new career highs across the board? Either way, what he has done this season has officially silenced the doubts for good. All that matters now is finishing the season strong, staying healthy, and helping the Hurricanes have another deep playoff run.

The Hurricanes have the Metropolitan Division title sealed and are looking for the number one seed in the Eastern Conference. While those are good, the ultimate goal is to win the Stanley Cup for the first time since 2006. If they want to reach the mountain top once again, they will need Svechnikov to keep this run going in the postseason.

<a
