It was Thompson&#8217;s fourth shutout of the season and his 10th in the\u00a0NHL.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was like a playoff atmosphere,\u201d Thompson said. \u201cIt was electric. I think the best word to use for it is just fun. Those are games that you want to play in. And obviously, it&#8217;s a little more emotional with &#8216;Ovi,&#8217; and kind of not knowing the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/stuart-skinner-8479973\" title=\"Stuart Skinner\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stuart Skinner<\/a> made 23 saves for the Penguins (41-24-16), who have already clinched second in the Metropolitan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBetter than yesterday,\u201d Pittsburgh coach Dan Muse said. \u201cWe\u2019ve got to find ways to score. \u2026 Opportunities for rebounds were there. We were able to generate some good looks too. Their guy played well. That\u2019s part of the game as well. It was better than yesterday but still some things we\u2019ve got to take away and make sure that we\u2019re cleaning up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Penguins were without forwards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/noel-acciari-8478569\" title=\"Noel Acciari\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Noel Acciari<\/a> (upper body), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/anthony-mantha-8477511\" title=\"Anthony Mantha\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anthony Mantha<\/a> (lower body), and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/benjamin-kindel-8485414\" title=\"Ben Kindel\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ben Kindel<\/a>\u00a0(upper body), and defensemen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/ryan-shea-8478854\" title=\"Ryan Shea\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Shea<\/a> (upper body) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/connor-clifton-8477365\" title=\"Connor Clifton\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Connor Clifton<\/a>\u00a0(upper body). Each is day to day.<\/p>\n<p>Ovechkin and Pittsburgh captain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/sidney-crosby-8471675\" title=\"Sidney Crosby\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sidney Crosby<\/a>\u00a0played against each other for the 100th time, including the regular season and Stanley Cup Playoffs. They have met more than any No. 1 picks in League history and more than any players who currently occupy a top 10 spot on the all-time points list.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s still there, maybe not to the extent that it was, but hopefully people have been entertained,\u201d\u00a0Crosby said of the rivalry. \u201cAs competitors, as athletes, it\u2019s been pretty cool to be able to be part of some big games, and that rivalry.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Logan Thompson, who started back-to-back games for the first time this season, made 24 saves.
