Tuesday’s season-ending 2-1 win over the Columbus Jackets gave Alex Ovechkin<\/a> and the Washington Capitals a four-game<\/a> winning streak to close out the campaign. Ovechkin, the man who has scored the most goals in NHL history, is slated to be a free agent this offseason.<\/p>\n

While many have speculated he could retire, the Capitals legend has said that he doesn’t believe Tuesday’s win is his last game. When asked about what he’d like to hear from Washington GM Chris Patrick when it regards his future, Ovechkin made a joke that was shared<\/a> by ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want you for two more years,\u201d Ovechkin jested. \u201cHere’s your contract, sign it.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Washington was the first team left out of the Eastern Conference playoff picture, the Russian legend played in all 82 games for the fifth time in his career. His 64 points were split right down the middle, with 32 goals and assists apiece.<\/a> Ovechkin could continue to play at a strong level for at least a couple more years, if not more.<\/p>\n

The question is, will he be in the same city he’s called home since 2005 if he returns for another season? The 2004 first overall pick just finished his 21st campaign in the nation’s capital. He’s already won one Stanley Cup, yet it wouldn’t be surprising to see the man also known as \u201cOvi\u201d want to win one more title to retire on top. If Patrick does give Ovechkin<\/a> the two-year deal he wants, can the Capitals give their captain a storybook ending? If so, then the latest joke from the Washington franchise icon could be the best one yet.<\/p>\n
