For Adam Pelech, this season wasn\u2019t just about results \u2014 it was about something far more personal: finally making it through a full year healthy.<\/p>\n

After battling injuries in recent seasons, Pelech skated in all 82 games for the first time in his career, a milestone he didn\u2019t take for granted.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust kind of felt lucky to be healthy,\u201d Pelech said. \u201cDefinitely work very hard at staying healthy\u2026 but sometimes you just get bad luck. So, fortunate to have been healthy.\u201d <\/p>\n

That durability marked a significant bounce-back for the veteran defenseman, who has long been a stabilizing presence on the Islanders\u2019 blue line. While the team\u2019s late-season collapse overshadowed individual accomplishments, Pelech\u2019s ability to stay in the lineup every night was a critical step forward \u2014 both for himself and for the team\u2019s defensive consistency.<\/p>\n

It didn\u2019t happen by accident.<\/p>\n

Pelech pointed to the work that goes into maintaining his body over the grind of an NHL season \u2014 preparation, conditioning, and attention to detail. After years of interruptions due to injuries, simply being available every night became a quiet but meaningful victory.<\/p>\n

Still, the disappointment of how the season ended lingered. \u201cDisappointing end of the season,\u201d Pelech admitted, balancing personal success with team frustration. <\/p>\n

Even so, Pelech found positives in the group, particularly the impact of rookie Matthew Schaefer, whose presence energized the locker room and elevated the defensive corps. \u201cIt was pretty incredible\u2026 he kind of changed our group for the better, especially the back end,\u201d Pelech said. <\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Pelech expressed optimism about the direction under head coach Peter DeBoer, noting early improvements in pace and puck movement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have full confidence that he will improve this team,\u201d Pelech said. <\/p>\n

For Pelech, the path forward is clear: build on a healthy season, continue refining his game, and help anchor a team that believes it can take a step next year.<\/p>\n
