The offseason has arrived once again for the Detroit Red Wings, and with it comes familiar questions about the future \u2014 including that of veteran star Patrick Kane<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After Detroit\u2019s 2025-26 season ended in disappointment, missing the playoffs for the 10th straight year, Kane addressed where things stand between himself and the organization.<\/p>\n

The short answer? Nothing is finalized, but there\u2019s interest on both sides.<\/p>\n

\"Patrick\u201cMutual interest\u201d in returning<\/p>\n

Kane made it clear he hasn\u2019t made a final decision about next season, but he didn\u2019t exactly sound like someone ready to walk away either.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou want to be on a winning team,\u201d Kane said via the Detroit Free Press.<\/a> \u201cI still think we have a good team in here, that we can win in here. I think this team\u2019s better than some teams that are in the playoffs.\u201d<\/p>\n

That belief stands out, especially considering Detroit once again fell just short.<\/p>\n

Frustration continues to build<\/p>\n

The Red Wings\u2019 season followed a now-familiar script: strong stretches, late-season struggles, and ultimately, no playoff hockey.<\/p>\n

Despite playing in a brutally competitive Atlantic Division, the only division with five playoff teams, the reality is simple.<\/p>\n

Detroit didn\u2019t get it done.<\/p>\n

Players inside the locker room aren\u2019t shying away from that truth.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the worst feeling you have not going to the playoffs and you know you\u2019re so close, everybody works so hard and we still don\u2019t get it done,\u201d said Simon Edvinsson. \u201cWe really need to figure that out. I know that everyone is so tired of being here.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to believe in what you do for the whole time. I felt like we \u2013 not stopped believing, but it almost felt that way a little bit, that we didn\u2019t have that edge to push us over. Something to make us win that extra game.\u201d<\/p>\n

A decision looms<\/p>\n

Kane\u2019s comments suggest he sees potential in Detroit, but potential hasn\u2019t translated into results.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the tension heading into the offseason.<\/p>\n

Does Kane believe the Red Wings are close enough to break through?<\/p>\n

Or does he look elsewhere for a clearer path to playoff hockey?<\/p>\n

For now, both sides appear open to continuing the relationship.<\/p>\n

But after another near-miss, words won\u2019t be enough.<\/p>\n

If Kane is going to stay in Detroit, it will likely come down to one thing:<\/p>\n
