For Simon Holmstrom, the offseason might not be starting just yet.<\/p>\n

While the New York Islanders saw their season come to an early end, Holmstrom made it clear during clean-out day that he\u2019s not quite ready to step away from the game \u2014 with the IIHF World Championships potentially next on his radar.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m fully healthy and\u2026 I\u2019ve been in some discussions,\u201d Holmstrom said. \u201cWe\u2019ll kind of see what happens here in the next couple days.\u201d<\/p>\n

That alone signals a player still locked in, even after a disappointing finish. For Holmstrom, the abrupt end to the Islanders\u2019 season hasn\u2019t dulled his desire to keep competing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t want to be done yet,\u201d he said. \u201cThe goal was to play deep here in the playoffs\u2026 it\u2019s a long summer, trying to keep it going.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a telling mindset \u2014 one that reflects both frustration and hunger. The Islanders entered the stretch run with playoff aspirations, only to fall short, and for players like Holmstrom, that kind of ending leaves something unresolved.<\/p>\n

Rather than immediately shifting into offseason mode, the 23-year-old winger is keeping the door open to extend his season on the international stage, representing Sweden if the opportunity materializes.<\/p>\n

Beyond Worlds, Holmstrom\u2019s offseason plans are still taking shape. He acknowledged a busy summer ahead, including personal milestones, but hockey remains front of mind.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy overall plan\u2026 we\u2019ll see what happens now with Worlds and all that, and then just enjoy my summer,\u201d he said. \u201cHave my wedding and then get ready for next season.\u201d<\/p>\n

Holmstrom also pointed to the strong Swedish presence in the Islanders\u2019 locker room as a key support system throughout the year, helping maintain a sense of familiarity far from home.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a lot of fun\u2026 when you miss home, you can always talk to the boys,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Whether Holmstrom suits up at the World Championships or not, one thing is clear \u2014 he\u2019s not ready to close the book on this season just yet.<\/p>\n
