For the 10th successive spring, the Detroit Red Wings are not participating in the Stanley Cup playoffs. However, 15 former Red Wings are skating in the tournament for Lord Stanley\u2019s mug. Among that group, 14 are players that Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman decided to let go.<\/p>\n

The Pittsburgh Penguins list a pair of ex-Red Wings forwards, and both have proven to be significant contributors to the club\u2019s surprisingly successful 2025-26 season.<\/p>\n

Left-winger Elmer Soderblom<\/a> accounted for 5-5-10 totals in 20 games since his March 6 trade from Detroit<\/a> to Pittsburgh. Over that same span, only three Red Wings players [Alex DeBrincat 9, Patrick Kane<\/a> 7, Dylan Larkin<\/a> 6] managed to score more goals than Soderblom. Both Justin Faulk and Lucas Raymond matched Soderblom\u2019s goal output. Kane (24), DeBrincat (23), Moritz Seider<\/a> (18), Larkin (14), and Raymond (11) accumulated more points than Soderblom.<\/p>\n

Also with the Penguins is right-winger Anthony Mantha. The 2013 Detroit first-round draft pick smashed home 33 goals this season to lead the Pens.<\/p>\n

Former Red Wings Forward Tarasenko Big Scorer For Wild<\/p>\n

The Minnesota Wild also goes two-deep in ex-Wings. Right-winger Vladimir Tarasenko scored 23 goals for the Wild this season after netting just 11 times for Detroit in 2024-25. Defenseman Jeff Petry, the son of former Detroit Tigers pitcher Dan Petry, was picked up by Minnesota from the Florida Panthers at the NHL trade deadline.<\/p>\n

The Edmonton Oilers suit up defenseman Jake Walman and goalie Calvin Pickard. Both were part of the Oilers team that reached the Stanley Cup final last spring. Goalie James Reimer and defenseman Nick Jensen are with the Ottawa Senators. Jensen was traded away by previous GM Ken Holland two months before Yzerman was named GM.<\/p>\n

Goalies Villie Husso and Petr Mrazek back up Lukas Dostal for the Anaheim Ducks. Husso is the Ducks\u2019 nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for perseverance and dedication to hockey.<\/p>\n

Goaltender Alex Lyon was a key element in helping the Buffalo Sabres into the playoffs, ending their 14-year postseason drought. Lyon won 20 games for the Sabres, posting a .907 save percentage and 2.74 goals-against average. He was with the Red Wings from 2022-24.<\/p>\n

Other former Red Wings in the playoffs include Philadelphia Flyers center Luke Glendening, Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere, Dallas Stars left-winger Adam Erne, and Montreal Canadiens center Joe Veleno.<\/p>\n
