For Tony DeAngelo, the opportunity the New York Islanders gave him wasn\u2019t something he took for granted \u2014 and it\u2019s one he hopes isn\u2019t over.<\/p>\n

After spending the last year and a half reestablishing himself, DeAngelo reflected on clean-out day with a clear sense of appreciation for how he got here.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was great\u2026 really grateful for Lou and Patty last year, the way they brought me in and gave me a chance,\u201d DeAngelo said. <\/p>\n

That chance turned into a full season role this year, where DeAngelo became a key contributor on the blue line, logging heavy minutes and playing in all situations. While the team fell short of its playoff goals, DeAngelo\u2019s personal mission \u2014 prove he still belongs \u2014 was accomplished.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was great to be here again\u2026 like being part of this organization and playing with these guys,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m happy here and would like to stay.\u201d <\/p>\n

DeAngelo didn\u2019t shy away from accountability either, particularly when discussing the Islanders\u2019 inconsistent power play \u2014 an area where he plays a central role.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m part of it\u2026 I just didn\u2019t think we were consistent enough,\u201d he said. \u201cThere were times where we were really dangerous\u2026 and other games where it just kind of died.\u201d <\/p>\n

That honesty reflects a player who understands both his value and his responsibility.<\/p>\n

On the ice, DeAngelo also embraced the chance to play alongside rising star Matthew Schaefer, calling it a rare experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty cool to play with a special talent like that\u2026 not everybody gets to do that in their career,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Beyond individual performance, DeAngelo pointed to the disappointment of how the season ended \u2014 a feeling shared throughout the room after falling out of a playoff spot late.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou go to battle with guys for 82 games\u2026 and when it gets taken away from you, it\u2019s just disappointing,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Still, there\u2019s a clear sense that DeAngelo wants to be part of what comes next.<\/p>\n

After making the most of his second chance, he\u2019s not looking for another opportunity elsewhere \u2014 he\u2019s hoping this one continues on Long Island.<\/p>\n
