A former Spartans star is continuing to thrive at the highest level of hockey, and now it’s happening in the postseason.<\/p>\n
Michigan State alum Porter Martone scored his first career NHL playoff goal<\/a> in his first career NHL playoff game on Saturday. And it was a beauty too.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n Late in the third period with the Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> holding onto a narrow one goal lead over rival Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a>, Martone put on the breaks and did a spin move that freed him up. From there, he let it rip right past the Pittsburgh goaltender to push the Flyers up by two goals. Martone’s goal ended up being the game-winner for the Flyers who took Game One of the first round series.<\/p>\n Martone has been incredible for the Flyers since he joined them after the Spartans’ season ended.
