It’s been six weeks, so I think I’m just looking forward to getting back on the ice. It’s been going pretty well right now, so hopefully it keeps keep going like that and I can be back on the ice in late June.”

Huberdeau missed Calgary’s final 26 games of the regular-season; they finished 34-39-9 and 30th place in overall National Hockey League standings. The 32-year-old hasn’t been the same player after getting acquired from the Florida Panthers in the trade that sent Matthew Tkachuk to Sunrise.

While Tkachuk helped the Panthers win back-to-back Stanley Cups — and advance to the Finals three straight times between 2023-25 — Huberdeau’s production has taken a huge hit since the trade.

Following a career-best 30-goal, 115-point campaign with Florida in 2021-22, he managed just 55 points in 2022-23, 52 points in 2023-24 and 62 points in 2024-25.

He only ended up suiting up for 50 contests this season, finishing with 10 goals and 25 points. Still, he figures to be a key piece of Calgary’s attack for the foreseeable future, as his contract runs through 2030-31 at a $10.5 million cap hit.

“I’m just so thrilled that he’s finally feeling good,” Flames head coach Ryan Huska said, per NHL.com. “It’s been a long time for this guy that he’s been battling through this. My hope is that he’s going to continue his rehab and he’s going to feel great over the course of the summer and he’s going to come back and he’s going to be awesome and that’s what I’m really pulling for him.”

The Flames haven’t made the playoffs since the 2021-22 campaign, but will be hoping to at least take a step forward next season.

The Calgary Flames endured another tough 2025-26 campaign as the rebuild continues, and things only got more difficult after top forward Jonathan Huberdeau suffered a season-ending in March.
