Logan Stankoven<\/a> scored on the power play as the Carolina Hurricanes<\/a> lead the Ottawa Senators<\/a> 1-0 after the first period of Game 2 of their first-round series.<\/p>\n

The Hurricanes lead the best-of-seven series 1-0.<\/p>\n

While there were no fisticuffs off the opening faceoff as happened in Game 1 with Brady Tkachuk<\/a> and Jordan Staal<\/a> dropping the gloves, the teams opened the second game of the series with a different type of physicality, trading big hits and scoring chances.<\/p>\n

Tkachuk took the opening penalty of the game, and Stankoven made him pay, converting on a Taylor Hall<\/a> pass from behind the net to fire the Hurricanes into the lead at the 6:31 mark of the frame.<\/p>\n

Andrei Svechnikov<\/a> went to the box for Carolina at 8:49, their first infraction of the game. They were able to successfully kill off the penalty.<\/p>\n

Svechnikov went back to the box at 15:22 for interference after delivering a big hit on Senators forward Claude Giroux<\/a> when he didn\u2019t have the puck.<\/p>\n

Once again, the Hurricanes killed the penalty without giving up a goal.<\/p>\n

Frederik Andersen<\/a> made nine saves in the opening period for the Hurricanes.<\/p>\n

Linus Ullmark<\/a> turned away 13 of 14 shots for the Senators.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Andersen made 22 saves as the Hurricanes defeated the Senators 2-0 in Game 1 of the series.<\/p>\n

Stankoven and Hall provided the offence for Carolina, with Jackson Blake<\/a> picking up two helpers in the victory.<\/p>\n

The Senators are playing without defenceman Artem Zub<\/a>, who exited the Game 1 loss with an undisclosed injury.<\/p>\n

He was a game-time decision heading into Monday\u2019s contest, but was scratched with Lassi Thomson<\/a> inserted into the lineup.<\/p>\n
