If you were, it would be extremely boring and would take a whole lot of the passion away from something that means so much to a whole lot of people. But, because of that the Philadelphia Flyers winning Game 2 and leaving Pittsburgh up 2-0 in the first-round series between archrivals, is making Penguins fans go absolutely insane.

Coming into the series, a whole lot of people that watch hockey and talk about hockey for their job were picking the Penguins to easily walk into the second round after swatting away this little Flyers team who hasn’t been here before. The so-called experience on the Penguins would outweigh any possible talent in Philadelphia and it was maybe the easiest series to pick for those people.

This must have given some sort of big boost of confidence for Penguins fans heading into this series. Then to see their team drop dead, get stomped all over in orange and black boots, and then have their aging, lifeless corpse dragged to Philadelphia to then possibly get wailed on again and again — has caused them to make some insane online posts for the world to see.

It is just so beautiful, to see our beloved hockey team drive another fan base to the brink of never watching this sport again.

Flyers’ statement Game 2 win drove Penguins fans crazy

To start this museum-esque walk through seeing a whole lot of Penguins fans and media members post through a whole lot of tears, let’s look at maybe the biggest example of a Pittsburgh fan just losing their cool and post something dumb.

Porter Martone certainly could have avoided getting super close to Stuart Skinner — and that’s just a little sign of what a rat he can become, to try and get in the head of the opposing netminder — but to then act like the Flyers are the dirty ones in this series? It might require a long look in the mirror.

But that was just a little appetizer. The real entree is this Pensblog account who was absolutely Posting Through It.

Dan Muse should shoot Rick Tocchet before game 3. Need something drastic

— The Pensblog (@Pensblog) April 21, 2026

Calling for the head coach of your team to shoot the opposing head coach with a gun is just a little too far, maybe. But of course it is from an anonymous account that will post just about whatever. And to make it even more hilarious, that tweet didn’t even get a whole lot of attention — you can just see the poster grinning, thinking this is going to get a whole lot of likes and retweets from fellow Penguins fans. For it to fall flat and now it’s just out there, a fan calling for a murder, is hilarious.

And this is the same account who keeps trying to do an analytics bit or something and it too, always falling flat. As we see with this post after Game 1:

Pens won 4-2 on my analytics charts. Puck luck always a factor, though. 84.4% win probability in game 2.

— The Pensblog (@Pensblog) April 19, 2026

Okay dude. You’re not sour at all. You’re actually super smart and brave and we won’t put it in the newspaper that you got mad.

Maybe it was just my fault and not wanting to pay attention to this man ever and would rather have the entire concept of him wiped from my memory Men In Black style, but Pat McAfee is apparently a Penguins fan. He was at the game last night, right up on the glass in the corner, and was posting away.

74 for the Flyers needs to be suspended immediately @NHL

— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) April 21, 2026

It could just be the post-win daze that I’m experiencing right now, but I cannot remember what exactly this could have been about. Maybe it was after Owen Tippett danced through the entire Penguins team and made every single player wearing those horrible jerseys fill their diaper.

While those Penguins fans were just going a little nutty — seriously, just search “Penguins” on your social media app of choice and scroll through so many people going nuts — maybe the most shocking thing is seeing some fans just cope so much.

Flyers a plucky team on a hot streak…

But that may be enough. And teams go on runs Becuase of stuff like that.

They could win the East honestly. But I feel teams like Colorado and Edmonton would skate circles around them.

— Sidney Crosby Playoffs 🐐 Esquire HQ (@crosbyhistory87) April 21, 2026

Look, we love this Flyers team, of course. But to think they could end up in the Stanley Cup Final is just massive piles of cope, an overwhelming amount of cope. I bet it would feel a lot better for every Penguins fan if they started to believe that this Flyers team is actually destined for a 2010-esque run to the Final and to run into the Avalanche or something. But that would be completely disregarding that the Flyers were the underdog coming into this series and the Penguins just suck.

Reading all of these Penguins fans get mad and go mad is just fantastic, but the most surprising thing of all as we scrolled through the timelines of those spoiled brats out in Eastern Pennsylvania, is seeing Mark Madden of all people be extremely rational about the whole thing.

Madden is infamous for just having some of the most insane posts online and was one of the old-school posters that would be defiantly against more new-school hockey thinking with numbers and all that stuff. And just, well, some questionable takes.

But, to then point at another Pittsburgh media member and basically say You Don’t Know Puck after the Flyers ran rampant all over the Penguins brings a joyful tear to my eye. Because it is true, the Flyers are actually doing something special and it is putting their hands around the Penguins’ throats and not letting them even think about getting a solid scoring chance. They have limited this Pittsburgh team full of Flyers killers — players who were in our collective nightmares for decades — to scoring just two goals in two games and Sidney Crosby has not even showed up one bit. Sidney Crosby!

The Flyers are doing this on purpose and it’s not just the Penguins tripping over each other and creating a Three Stooges act on the ice (they have done some of that and it’s helped) but it’s Rick Tocchet putting his stamp on the game and having every single member of this Flyers team commit to the plan and give the same energy through two games.

It’s a beautiful thing and the takes we’re going to see coming out of Pittsburgh as this series continues is going to bring us so much joy.

Sports fandom is not sane or rational in any possible way.
