He put up just a goal and an assist through his first eight games in Vancouver before going back on injured reserve.<\/p>\n<p>Upon returning, however, Rossi looked like a different player, finding real chemistry on a line with Brock Boeser and Liam \u00d6hgren and being part of a complete rejuvenation of the Canucks\u2019 first power play unit. The result was Rossi putting up an eye-catching seven goals and 13 assists through the Canucks\u2019 final 22 games of the season.<\/p>\n<p>Which is why it might come as a bit of a shock to learn he was playing through a foot injury.<\/p>\n<p>In a story with Austrian news website <a class=\"text-accent\" href=\"https:\/\/sport.orf.at\/stories\/3154973\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">sport.orf.at<\/a>, Rossi shared his frustrations with being unable to represent Austria at the upcoming Men\u2019s World Championships in Zurich. The story also revealed that Rossi suffered a metatarsal fracture in October and \u201canother injury to the same area in the second half of the NHL season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA metatarsal fracture suffered in October and another injury to the same area in the second half of the NHL season, plus his trade from the Minnesota Wild to the Vancouver Canucks: Rossi certainly didn\u2019t have a dull season. \u201cIt was a very exciting season, also a very demanding one. It certainly wasn\u2019t easy,\u201d the 24-year-old said in a voice message on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, it pains him not to be able to support the team in Zurich, where Austria will face Great Britain in their first game on May 16: \u201cIt\u2019s a shame that I\u2019m not at 100 percent. It would certainly have been the crowning achievement to also play for the national team,\u201d said the 24-year-old. Especially since the World Championship is in Zurich. \u201cI really did spend a lot of my youth there,\u201d explained the Vorarlberg native, who was traded to the ZSC Lions in the Swiss metropolis in 2020 after being selected by the Minnesota Wild.<\/p>\n<p>Since health comes first, he accepted the Vancouver Canucks\u2019 decision not to let him travel to Switzerland for the World Championships, the Vorarlberg native said. \u201cFor me, it means recovery, getting completely away from ice hockey and skates so I can feel good again,\u201d Rossi said.
