A company linked to the New York Islanders NHL team applied for three Hamilton hockey trademarks ahead of the Islanders’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate moving to the Ontario city.<\/p>\n

The Canadian Trademarks Database<\/a> shows Islanders Holding LLC applied to trademark Hamilton Havoc, Hamilton Mustangs and Hamilton Hammers on April 17. The applications identify the trademarks as being for “entertainment in the nature of hockey games,” fuelling speculation among fans that they are possible team names.<\/p>\n

CBC Hamilton asked the New York Islanders if the trademark applications are for potential names but did not receive a response before publication.<\/p>\n

The applications were filed by the Toronto office of Canadian business law firm Aird & Berlis.<\/p>\n

In late March, the AHL board of governors unanimously approved<\/a> the Bridgeport Islanders’ relocation from Bridgeport, Conn. \u2014 where they played since 2001 \u2014 to Hamilton.<\/p>\n

Each trademark application<\/a> was signed by Jay Itzkowitz, who the Islanders list as a member of their business operations team<\/a>, and the supplied address for Islanders Holding LLC is the same as the Islanders business offices<\/a> in Floral Park, N.Y.<\/p>\n

Attached to each is an April 20 agreement to transfer<\/a> each trademark to Hamilton Hockey Holdings ULC, signed by Islanders general counsel Zachary Klein. The forms say Hamilton Hockey Holdings ULC is also located at the same office in Floral Park.<\/p>\n

The Islanders did not confirm the relationship between the three companies when asked.<\/p>\n

Team schedule coming this summer<\/p>\n

“To our fans and Bridgeport\u2014thank you for 25 incredible years,” an April 23 post on the Bridgeport Islanders Instagram says. “You gave us memories we\u2019ll carry forever. While our next chapter begins elsewhere, a part of us will always belong here.”<\/p>\n

This fall, the AHL team is set to play at the recently renovated Hamilton arena, TD Coliseum, which previously said a new name and logo will be coming. The venue has yet to say when that might be.<\/p>\n

According to its website, the season schedule will be released in the summer. The arena is taking deposits for private suites and “premium” seats and advertising season tickets.<\/p>\n

Hamilton last had an AHL team in 2015, when the Hamilton Bulldogs were the Montreal Canadiens’ farm team. New York Islanders General Manager Mathieu Darche played for the Hamilton Bulldogs in the 2009\/10 season.<\/p>\n
