In the past two NHL seasons, Detroit<\/a> Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond<\/a> has enjoyed solid tournaments for his native Sweden.<\/p>\n

He averaged a point per game for the Swedes in last season\u2019s 4 Nations Face-Off. This past winter, at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympic Games, Raymond led all Swedish scorers with 1-8-9 totals in five games.<\/p>\n

Following both tournaments, Raymond<\/a> came back to the Red Wings and wasn\u2019t anywhere near the player he was when he left.<\/p>\n

This season, Raymond scored six times in 24 post-Olympic games as the Red Wings faded out of the playoff picture. That works out to an average of 20.5 goals over an 82-game season.<\/p>\n

Before the Olympics, Raymond<\/a> was scoring at a 28-goal pace.<\/p>\n

Last season, following the 4 Nations Face-Off, Raymond counted six goals in 28 games. That would account for just 17.5 goals over an 82-game campaign.<\/p>\n

Before that tournament, Raymond was on pace for 32 goals.<\/p>\n

In 2023-24, when Detroit missed the playoffs on a tiebreaker, Raymond was one of those players who was driving the bus. He scored 15 goals in the club\u2019s final 24 games. That would\u2019ve worked out to 52 goals over an 82-game season. He was averaging 23.4 goals over his first 56 games that season.<\/p>\n

If the Red Wings had that Raymond down the stretch this season, they\u2019d still be playing hockey right now. <\/p>\n

Red Wings Want Raymond To Shoot More<\/p>\n

Raymond finished the season with 173 shots. That was down from his career high of 192 shots last season. Raymond finished with 14.5% shooting percentage, which matches his career average.<\/p>\n

Asked to analyze his season output, Raymond took a shot at it . . . and at himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t think I had enough shots this year,\u201d Raymond said. \u201cThat\u2019s just purely statistic-based. But you could kind of see it in a game, too. <\/p>\n

\u201cOr, you know, I felt, at least personally. When I get shots off and kind of have that shot-first mentality, it creates a lot of things, and it leads to a lot of good stuff. So, to pinpoint one area, that\u2019s probably it.\u201d<\/p>\n

He\u2019ll get no argument on that point from his coach.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we talk about Lucas as an individual, I\u2019m a real big believer in his shot in his toolkit,\u201d Red Wings coach Todd McLellan<\/a> said. \u201cThat may be one of the best things that he has and that he brings to the game. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve talked about it. Not just at the end of the season, obviously, throughout the season. And if you just take his shooting percentage and you throw in an extra hundred shots, which I think he\u2019s very capable of, we have a 40-goal scorer, and that\u2019s something we\u2019ll push him towards.\u201d <\/p>\n

Next season, the Red Wings want Raymond to put himself ahead of his teammates when he has the puck in the offensive zone.<\/p>\n
